WTB - Bandits!

I really love this movie. I just think it is so fun and it totally entertains me. I love the story, I love the acting, I LOVE the characters, I love the twist ending and I love who Kate ends up with when it's all said and done- which I think is something about the movie that many have a complaint with, but I say, "well played, sir." (and I love the alternate ending). I even think Bruce Willis is great and he is an actor that I'm either just barely lukewarm about or he gets a big "eh". Cate Blanchett plays a great "unbalanced woman (to a spectacular degree)", but I must say- Billy Bob's character with his hypochondria and OCD, is my favorite part. Remember that scene in the bar when he plays "Just the Two of Us" over and over and over and Kate is like "I love this song!" (thinking they have made a connection) and he is like- I didn't know what song it was, every time I see a jukebox, I have to push A1 over and over and over. Or something like that, it just cracks me up. ALSO, I don't know how it came up, but a few months ago Rob and I somehow were talking about U2 (or maybe we heard a clip of the song) but I mentioned that "Beautiful Day" is the only U2 song I think is pretty good and don't mind hearing now and then. Then I sat there for a minute and then said, "Hmmm, do you think that might be because it's in Bandits?" Before I even started the sentence, Rob was chuckling and nodding his head in agreement -he thought the exact same thing. Anyway-- this is my current "anytime/rainy day movie" by current I mean for the last few years. If you haven't seen this one, you gotta. I know it clunked with Sue, but it's worth a shot, maybe you'll like it as I do.

I really wanted to do the quote about Terry's Neil Young wig, but it isn't anywhere online, so I was going to pull my movie out and make the sacrifice of watching it to pull the quote out directly but I can't find my copy! I'm so sad. Something must be done about that soon.......

Well, peeps- Pops got it with the first quote! Way to go dad! Alex also got it right (after the Wednesday clue). I also (as I made mention earlier) got a guess from Matt and one from Dan and they both guessed "Saving Silverman" after the second clue. I can see how they came to that conclusion. Matt was totally positive he got it right, Dan was shaky about it. Dan later came up with the right guess after the Friday clue. *****Hold it: Just checked my phone and I got a text from Matt at 10:51 tonight that reads, "Bandits. Dang."*****

Chalk another one up for Pops!

Oh, and if you didn't get my joke clue by now, it came from this:

BOOK LIST?

Alex gave Matt this book for him to read. I found it in Matts' office and looked at it and it had stamped inside "from the library of Daniel W. Wotherspoon". I remembered how I read it in the early 70s and how it was an influence on me. I knew of Richard Bach. He was a writer for Flying Magazine that I read monthly when I was learning to fly and had those airplanes back in the 60s.

What this is about: Where are we on the "book list"? I included J. L. Seagull on my list as a book that had an influence on my life. It looks like it had some meaning to Dan. It will be fun to see the lists published.

WTB Lads

Man #1: I don't know. Kate's a special lady.
Man #2: Kate is an ice burg waiting for the Titanic.

Wednesday clue (just under the radar! It's 11:15 pm)

Man #1: What'd you bring her here for?
Man #2: One, I had no choice, two, I may have suffered a slight concussion and three, she is mentally imbalanced to a spectacular degree.
Woman (in question): I can hear you!

Friday hint quote:

Man #1: "He's climbing in your windows, he snatches your people up, tryin' to rape um. So ya'll need to hide your kids, hide your wife and hide your husband, cause they rapin' everybody out here."

HAHA! Couldn't resist. Here is the real quote:

Man #1: Kate, you should choose. What's it gonna be? Mr. Action Figure Hero Guy? Or brains, and sensitivity, and a lot of other things I could name. So in other words: me or THAT guy?
Man #2:Yeah, good looking, or ITCHY.

WTB Movie: The Silence of the Lambs

Aaahh! Silence of the Lambs. Could Jodie Foster been any better? Could Anthony Hopkins been any better. Could any other actors pulled off those parts? Don't think so.....

Sue was last. Just Friday and she said DUH!. She must not have visited the site on Weds. Next was our B on the 22. Cat and Dan on the 22ed. Dan was busy and hasn't seen the blog or he would have gotten it sooner. (so he says...yeah, Dan, easy to say) Jeanine was next on the 21st. Matt on the 21 and Alex early on the 21.

The grand winner is our Champ, Emily. She got it Sunday by "taking a stab at it" she said. Waytogo, Ems.

I think Amy knew what it was, but did not submit a guess in protest of the R rating I think. Good stand, Amy and I respect you for that and as I said earlier, your old reprobate pops will not do another R rating.

Have a good week, peeps. Love you all. Dad

No laughing at the natives.... EDITED FRIDAY WITH A BETTER NATIVE
Edited Sunday with an even better looking native............. well, there is someone a little better looking, but as agreed- close enough.

WTB Movie Quiz

Wooohooo! I won! Yea! Sorry I am a little late doing this posting. Sue was a little late with her results and I had to finish the Hearts game tonight and just now got home.

I loved Spiderman. Toby, MJ the crusty editor of the paper and the graphics. I was just thrilled when I first saw the movie in the theaters and saw Spidy swinging from the buildings on his web... so fine! Anyway time for a new contest and here is the first hint quote:

Person 1 - Is it true what they're sayin', he's some kinda vampire?

Person 2 - They don't have a name for what he is.

This is one of my favorite movies and I watch all or part of it almost every time I see it shown on cable. Good luck and have fun.

WEDNESDAY QUOTE:
Finally! Our internet has been down all day. A teck came and rewired our house a little and we are up and running.

I broke my own rule. The WTB movie this week is "R" rated.

Quote for the day:

Person: "A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti."

That should give it away to those who have seen the movie. Where is everybody this week. All busy like me?

FRIDAY QUOTE: Everyone has guessed it by now that is going to. I don't need a giveway clue, but here is one anyway:

Hannibal Lecter: [on telephone] I do wish we could chat longer, but I'm having an old friend for dinner. Bye.

Clarice Starling: Dr. Lecter? Dr. Lecter? Dr. Lecter? Dr. Lecter?

I'm heading for Cedar Hills in a few minutes for the Grossmont Ward reunion in South Jordan tonight. Mom has to work and is staying home. I would have liked to be in Rexburg for Haley's graduation party, but so far we can only be in one place at a time. Congrats Haley....we are all proud of you and all you do.

Spiderman!

Spiderman, Spiderman does whatever a spider can. I love this movie and the second one! The third one was a little lame, but I still liked it.

Dad got it first! Good job dad! Haley got it next. Both Dad and Haley got it after the first clue. Dan was next then Em. Dan, when I first read you comment reminding me to do the Wednesday clue and you mention "friendly neighborhood...." I couldn't believe you would put such a hint like that in the comments! Then I realized you hadn't guessed yet, so it was just a coincidence. Made me laugh.

Okay Dad, take it away.

Hot air balloon's are da bayyysst!

Hey peeps faces-
Last night, which would be Friday I guess, I heard people talking about the hot air balloon event thing that was going on early the next morning. The balloon thing always seems to be a pretty big deal around here, and people get up at 4:30 in the morning and fly up in the air and say "yeeehaawww!" or other Wyoming words. I thought to myself, "hey, I'm feeling adventurous and crazy today, maybe I should get up at 4:30 in the morning and haul all my equipment out there and make a little short film about it for no reason at all." So when I told Spoon my crazy idea he thought he would join me and since he lives in Wyoming and says things like "I tell ya what" and "darlin" and "rockin' chairs, rockin' babies, rock-a-bye, rock of ages" (Well, I guess only Dolly Parton says that one) He jumped on the idea and met me out in the field thismorning.
Turns out, that if you go somewhere early enough, make friends, look too legit to quit with a fancy camera kit, you can get invited to ride in a balloon for no reason at all.
One of the best things about the whole experience was this, you see, we happened to fly directly over George and Janes and Chesters house, so I called Pops Mcgavin and told him to come outside really fast. He had no idea I was 300 feet above him.

This is that moment.

The White Ghost responds: So after the rude awakening I put on some pants and a shirt and went out side with my little camera and this is what I saw. I am sure that whatever balloon Matt was riding in had drifted out of the scene.

What the Bip? 7/11/10

I didn't realize I had won! whoo hoo! I've been at work today, so I couldn't get to this earlier. I'm going to have to do the playlist later, don't have time right now. So enjoy Haley's music a little longer.

I love What's Eating Gilbert Grape! One of my favorites. Leo de Caprio is fantastic. I didn't know who he was and seriously thought they had gotten a challenged kid to do the role. Didn't realize it was someone acting until I saw him at the Oscars. Scott does a great impression of Arnie I learned this past weekend.

Here is this week's movie quote:

"Ash nazg durbatulúk,
ash nazg gimbatul,
ash nazg thrakatulûk
agh burzum-ishi krimpatul."

hahahahahaha! Just kidding. That's an elven quote from Lord of the Rings.

Here is the real movie quote:

Not everyone is meant to make a difference. But for me, the choice to lead an ordinary life is no longer an option.

Good luck!

Wednesday's quote on Thursday:

Person #1 - There's a page six problem.

Person #2 - We have a page one problem, shut up.

Good luck and have fun.....

Here is your Friday quote:

You do too much. College, a job, all this time with me. You're not Superman, you know.

Here is a second Friday clue:

Person #1- Aren't you going to have a bite?

Person #2- No thanks.......had a bite.

WTB

What's Eating Gilbert Grape?

There is a picture of Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio. They are the best characters in this movie. This is a movie I remember watching with you guys growing up.I love Arnie's character, he did a great job. I really couldn't decide what movie to do and then I remembered talking about it last weekend so I did this one.

Sue won it! Good job Sue. Then Matt was next, then Emily, then Cath, then Dan. Everyone got it on the second quote except Dan who got it on the last ones. My mom guessed IQ from the first quote which was a good guess! That's it. Alrighty then, take it away Sue.

The Picture Game

I thought that I would explain the picture game thoroughly, since it is a really really fun game, and might be a fun game to play for anyone who happens to read this.

Basically, you have a group of people, and you sit in a circle either around a table or the living room. Everyone has a little stack of papers in front of them (Scrap paper size)- one paper for everyone that is playing the game. On the top piece of paper you write any phrase you want: it can be a movie quote, a saying, a song lyric, etc. Then everyone passes their ENTIRE stack of papers to the person next to them. That person reads the saying and then puts that paper at the bottom of the stack and then interprets the saying in picture on the new piece of paper.
After everyone has completed their drawing, they leave their picture on top and passes it to the next person. That person studies the picture and then puts it on the bottom of the stack, and on the next piece, interprets that picture into a saying. Then passes the stack to the next person in the circle and that person reads the saying and interprets the saying into picture form and you get the picture, this goes on until you are handed your original quote. After this has been completed, you then one by one, go around in the circle and go through your stack and hilarity ensues. (You are supposed to wait to look at your stack until it is your time to share- this is very hard for some people and they peek). Do what you will, but it is a little more fun to see it all for the first time with the group.
This is a seriously fun party game- think telephone or whatever they call it, but instead of passing a sentence from one ear to the next in line until your sentence is twisted and little resembles the original- you are doing it by pictures and how other people interpret your "art".
We played this at my house when the fam got together to go to Lagoon one night and man we laughed. I saved the best one of the evening and took pics and now I will share with you all to give you a taste of what can happen.

Sarah wrote as her original quote:

"I can't believe it's not butter!"

I was next to her so I drew a little dude that couldn't believe it wasn't butter-

If you look at my pic, my butter on the table looks a little like an iron, and ironing board, and my "not butter" butter looks something like a cowboy hat.................

So, Matt (who was next to me) wrote:

"country music is the worst thing to iron to ever!"

So B drew this:

Which led Amy to translate the picture as:

"An angry missionary ironing his shirt watching a Mexican playing a guitar and Jesus playing the violin on TV"

So, Kyle drew this:

His friend Dallon interpreted the picture thusly:

What Sarah got back instead of "I can't believe it's not butter!" was Kelly's final interpretation which was:

"I love to play guitar hero while my brother irons my clothes"

(We laughed so hard that Amy thought B's drawing of the country music fiddler looked like Jesus playing the violin.)

So that's "The Picture Game"-- which is open by the way, to a new title. The name could be better, so if you think of one- let us know. I can't promise it won't be called the picture game forever anyways, even with a brilliant new title- but who knows.

It's always a fun experiment to see how something can get so twisted so fast. Some highlights of this weekend's game were:

-my drawing of what turned out to be "Holly Holy dreams" (or something very similar), turned into intestinal problems of a merman. (Cat thought my drawing of mistletoe looked like intestines for some reason, and then her drawing (I think) had a problem with the guy's feet that someone interpreted as a mermaid.

-For the life of me I can't remember the original quote for this one, but it turned into Lord Voldemort about to kill Harry Potter at midnight by B, and my interpretation of it was: "twelve o'clock and all is well! (actually all is not well for the little worm guy against the wall)." We laughed forever at B's drawing of Harry Potter and then the fact that I thought it was a half worm/half human creature. WHY we didn't save that drawing I will curse forever. It was SO funny.

-Amy's violent drawing of the shower scene from psycho that led Scott to fear sleeping next to her.

-Sarah has the best pictures! She drew a pic of Neil Diamond with one little kitten on his chest (Neil was a stick figure, and the kitten was so cute and inserted right on his stick chest).
If you don't know about Neil and his "kittens" by now, I can't help you- you're on your own.

Note: Amy had posted on her magnet board a pic Sarah drew in a previous game I wasn't around for that I really wanted to post here- but we passed it around sometime this weekend and it didn't get put back and we couldn't find it this morning before I had to leave. It was of an old lady jumping out of a box and it is SO FUNNY. Anyway- Amy I hope you find that, it was worth saving.

Did I miss some funny moments from the last game, peeps? It's rather late and I have to get to bed and can't remember anymore.

Fun game. Fun weekend. Thanks mama bird.

Meep meep meep..........

Haley's WTB

Wow, I won again! Woo hoo. That was an easy one for me since I'm such a twilight nerd. :)  Here's the new quote:

Person 1: I love the sky. It's so limitless.
Person 2: It is big. It's very big.
Person 1: Big doesn't even sum it up, right? That word big is so small.

***WEDNESDAY HINT*** (Sorry it's late, I'm busy so just deal with it!)

Person 1  Did you ever see a beached whale on television?
Person 2: Yeah.
Person 1: Yeah. That's her. That's my mom.
Person 2: [pauses] What about your dad?
Person 1: Uh, some other day. Some other day.

***FRIDAY GIVEAWAY***

G:  I know a boy whose name is Arnie... he's, uh, 'bout to turn 18 and have a big party. I know a boy whose name is Arnie. C'mon down, buddy.

G:  Arnie, you're getting so big. Pretty soon I ain't gonna be able to carry you no more.
Arnie No, you're getting littler, G. You're getting littler, you're shrinking! You're shrinking, G, you're shrinking! Shrinking, shrinking, shrinking!

HINT: The character of Arnie is played by a young upcoming actor at the time, and is not actually mentally retarded.

Good luck everyone!

WTB Movie

It had to be TWILIGHT. This is the week for all of us Twilighters. We went to the new one last night and it wasn't as much a snoozer as the last two. Fun being with all the fam.

Okay, Haley did it again and beat all contestants. Emily was right behind her a few hours on Saturday the 26th. Then Amy, Matt, Souix, and Dan. Always fun doing the Movie quiz and waiting for your answers and guesses and looking up the quotes.

Keep on trucking!!!

Horror!

Have fun at Eclipse this weekend everyone. Glad none of you are quite as crazy as the people shown here:

http://www.greatwhitesnark.com/2010/06/29/twelve-awful-twilight-tattoos/

The blogger's comments are also actually pretty funny.
