So Travis and I have been saying for a long time that when Kurt dies, we aren't going to get a new dog for a long time. We've lost 3 Boxers in 6 years and just felt we should take a little break from dogs. Well...a funny thing happened today. Travis and I got home from work at about 6:00 and there was a Bassett Hound pup in our yard!! She had a collar and a leash but no tags. She's really skinny and first thing we did was get her food and water which she wolfed down like we couldn't believe. I went in to call Animal Control. But they were closed except for emergencies. She wasn't hurt and hadn't hurt anybody. So I was like, let's keep her! I couldn't believe how easy it was to convince Travis! He just looked into those puppy hound dog eyes and was sold! So I've bathed her, haven't named her yet, gave her Gracie's old collar and Travis is going to go to PetSmart to get a crate and dishes. I can't believe how cute she is. We'll take her to the vet soon to get aged and checked out, but I bet she's only like three or four months. I took a few pictures, but she is so fast and hard to get a good picture.

That's nice and all and is great if she was abandoned, but what if she's lost?
We've been talking about it a lot. We're keeping that in mind. We'll look for lost dog signs, but somebody opened our gate and left her there. It just seems like abandonment.
How cute!! It looks like you guys are supposed to have a dog! I'm so sorry about Kurt. I hope you guys get to keep Gracie 2, or whatever you decide to call her.
She is cute! My friend had a basset hound when I was a kid and I always thought she was cute. I like how their ears drag on the ground when they get older.
By the looks of this pics it wags its tail non stop! Must be happy!
THESE...
These?
He said 'this pics'!
Cute! I hope she gets to stay. She's adorable
Way to go! Cat and Travis. Bassett hounds are very cute and loyal. Should be a good pet. A little bit "Twilight Zone" she showing up when it did. Nice! Maybe Kurt had some influence.
That is such a cute thought that Kurt put that doggie there. I love it.
And Cat, I didn't figure he was shut inside your gate. Interesting. I'd still look for missing pet signs though, just in case there is some little 6 year old girl crying herself to sleep at night because her Christmas puppy got lost.
It's weird. I was thinking last night that she showed up to remind me of the great times I had with Kurt. I've only been focusing on the sickness and pain he was in for that last bit. But I totally got happy flash backs of Kurt when I took her out to pee and watched her sleeping on the couch. She is such a weird little alien creature. Such a funny little body.
If one has an ear fettish, Bassett Hounds are for you.
Cat called me last night and told me about her. I told her she's a little gift from Kurt. I think that animal shelter on 5th west does free chip scans. You might want to see if she has one of those identification chips.
good idea about the chip scan. Check the classified lost and found. Someone found Milo once and kept him in her yard, took pictures of him & made posters of him, named him "Honey", and took great care of him until we were able to find him. I was so grateful. She cried when we came to get him. I hope there's no one looking for her so you can keep her.
We have been checking the classifieds and KSL.com and all that stuff. That's why we're waiting a couple weeks to take her to the vet, we don't want to go to too much unnecessary expenses if anyone ends up looking for her. I remember when that happened with Milo. That was so cute and sad.
So the appearance of this little thing was so crazy, and how we found her ownder was even crazier. Yes, we did find her owner and he picked her up on Sunday afternoon. We miss her so bad! She came and went and helped me a lot.
You'll have to tell us the story. Sorry she had to go.
So weird! I took her Saturday morning to the vet to see if she had an i.d. chip. No chip. So I was like, sweet! I'll call animal services on Monday to see if anyone's reported her missing, and if not, I think we get to keep her! We had just fallen in love with her completely. So Saturday afternoon I sent my friend Laura a picture of her and talked with her a bit. Late that night, Laura calls me and tells me that our pup's owner is at her house playing poker! I was like, no way. How can the world be that small? She e-mailed me the lost dog ad that had just been put on Craig's list that day, and sure enough, it was her. So I talked to the guy and arranged for him to pick her up on Sunday. Apparently he had tied her to a tree at our local library on Tuesday and when he came out 20 minutes later she was gone. He watched the library's surveillance tape and saw a kid take her. How she ended up in our yard is still a mystery. We miss her, but the kitty is glad to have her house back.
Some story about your short time pet. I am glad she helped you with your loss of Kurt and you can feel good about what you did to find her true owner. Wish I could have seen her.
Thanks for the story. Pretty amazing!
