Ok, no offense to people who like this movie, but Marcus and I just thought it was terrible! Where shall I start? We were bored one night last week and we wanted to watch something that we had never seen. So I remember my mom mentioning that Moonstruck was a good movie and quite funny. So I suggested we watch it. From start to finish, Marcus and I kept looking at each other and cracking up after a look of "what the heck??" And I even love Nicolas Cage, but he was just sooo weird. It's like it wasn't even him. I do believe it was his first movie, but seriously. The whole thing consisted of a disfunctional Italian family(Cher being 40 and living with her parents and many other weird people). The main theme in the movie was infidelity. Wow, like we need more of that in the world. She (Cher) cheats on her fiance, with his brother, while he is in Italy with his dying mother! Then, her father is cheating on her mother throughout the whole thing and her mom is almost seduced by this creepy college professor. And they blame all this "love" on hte way the moon looks! I thought it was just weird how she goes from looking like a spinster into a floozy in like 5 min and heads off to the Opera. The only couple seconds I actually liked was when they were at the Opera becuase they see La Bohem, which is the best! But of course they have to ruin that for me because as he is walking her home afterwards, they mysteriously end up at his apartment and as they are playing my favorite song from La Bohem, Nicolas Cage starts yelling "Go get in my bed!!" Wow, that's romantic. It was disgusting! I did like her mother, she was cool. Well, as you can see, I hated to movie. If any of you like it, I would love to know why. And if you agree with me, I would love to hear that too! And I hereby declare that I will rate this movie %*@$ becuase I believe that it will cause B permanent scarring becuase it has a creepy Nicolas Cage in it! But other than that, I think it deserves a "hud sauce."

You might be a little harsh in your dislike for this movie, however I mostly agree with you. I have never raved about this movie and was always bothered by the infidelity theme. But if one won't watch a film or TV with infidelity in it, one won't watch any TV or films it seems these days. Anyway, way to go and express your thoughts....
I love this movie. And it is no where Nick Cages' first. Basically, I disagree with everything that Haley hated about it. Sorry berries pies. I love how Loretta still lives with her family. Their dynamic is funny. I love her make-over. I think she looks beautiful and so deserved to. I love how she did it because of how Ronny finally made her feel worth it. Johnny was a total dope; she did not love him. She loved Ronny. I love that scene on the street after the opera. That's where that classic line I just absolutely love comes from: 'I'm no monument to justice!' I'm sorry that you didn't like it. I think it's geat. I love Olympia Dukakis. I love the old man and the dogs. Ahh la bella luna!!
I too, love this movie! I totally agree with what Cath said.
I love seeing the dynamics of a VERY Italian family. Johnny was a total dope and Loretta deserved a whole lot better. I love her makeover, in fact would have included it in my 5 best had I thought of it. She didn't look like a hussy at all to me!
I found Cage's role in this film brilliant! He is so hilarious I can't even tell you. You are wrong though Cath, he doesn't say that line after the opera, it's when she first meets him in the bakery. He had just told her the story of the bad blood between him and Johnny (which made NO sense!) she calls him on it, saying, why is that Johnny's fault and he says, "I don't know!! I'm no freaking monument to justice!" Come on, THAT is FUNNY.
It would take me a 3 page essay to write why him shouting "get in my bed" is romantic, but his character saying it, it is. I also hate infidelity movies as a rule (I hated It Could Happen to You for that very reason). As Cher was only engaged, it didn't bother me (to a man that wouldn't kneel on the floor to ask her to marry him, because of his suit!) He was too much of a mama's boy.
Anyway, I shall defend this movie until I die, I do love it. I agree with one thing though berries pies (hee hee, I love that- so mom, who loves this movie by the way) it would probably cause B permanent scarring for the Nicholas Cage stuff alone.
The guy that tries to seduce Dukakis was not in College, he was a professor. I have no excuse for Loretta's father, but I do love his character. When she shows him the ring, he says, "it's stupid!". I really do love the Italian culture in this movie, it is so entertaining.
Many great lines, my favorite is also the monument to justice one, but I also love, "and someday, you will die, and I will go to your funeral in a red dress".
Well fine then!!!! Oh and I said he was a professor. Haha, I just told Marcus that you guys like that movie and he's like, "what?? I hated that movie. Land Before Time 8 was better than that!!"
I too love this movie! I love Nick Cage in it. His character is so passionate, that's what makes him so crazy! I love it when Cher slaps him "snap out of it!". And I totally agree with Em, her still living with her family at her age is a total Italian family thing. And she totally didn't love Johnny, she admits that all along. Doesn't she agree to marry him just so she can prove she isn't a curse or something? And I thought she looked great at the opera, not a floozy!
Cher won an oscar for the role. Which reminds me of a very funny scene in the Simpsons. This guy has been in a coma for like 20 years and he finally wakes up and his first question is "what happened to Sonny and Cher" The doctor tells him that Cher won an oscar and Sonny is a Senator. The coma guy says "good night" and goes back into a coma. Funny.
Haha Sue! I LOVE that Simpsons moment thanks for reminding me and making me laugh.
Oh and Haley- Marcus just lost a point for having actually seen Land Before Time 8.
That little 15 second scene from the Simpsons is one of my all time favorites too Em. Glad I could give you a laugh.
Haha he hasn't seen it, he was just saying that a crappy movie is better than that one!
Speaking of crappy movies: Matt and I were alone last night as B was at Young Women's and moms at Wally World or somewhere buying longevity pills for Tiny while I am trying to stangle her, but back to the point. I rented "Jumper" and we both thought that it was true Hud Sauce to the second power. So dumb and poorly filmed and acted. Even our friend, Samuel L. Jackson looked bad. Don't waste your time on that Hudsucker.
Good to know about Jumper. That was one that the previews looked like it might be okay. I've almost rented it on a couple of occasions and changed my mind. Now I won't be tempted any more. Thank you oh Father of Mysteries!
