Home Alone! Thought I would start the Holiday Season off with a fun, family, holiday movie. I've never seen any of the sequels, but I like this movie a lot, and think it still holds up. Sorry I didn't get to this last night. It started snowing around 5pm, and by 6:30, my power was out. So out of pure boredom, I went to sleep around 7. Oh yeah, sorry I didn't do a Friday quote. I forgot.
Haley got it first! Way to go Haley! Haley got it really quick too. B was next! Yay B! Haven't heard from you in a while! Em was next, then Jeanine, then we got a guess from one of our blog stalkers! Emily Kim! For those who may not know (Dan, Jeanine), Emily (Peterson) Kim is a childhood friend of Emily's. She was hoping we wouldn't mind if she guessed, and I told her of course not. I've always thought it was funny how well the Wright kids got along with the Peterson kids. The Casper's might have them beat, but there are a lot of Wright/Peterson friend combinations. I am friends with Jane, Catherine and Emily are friends with Andi and Emily, and Matt is friends with Spencer. And, we are all still friends.
Here is this week's movie quote:
Some of us are Baptists, others Catholics. My father was an Oldsmobile man.

Congrats Haley! And good job B! It's good to see the bottom two on the list being the first two to get it.
Good to see you send in a guess Em! Blog stalker- hee hee.
We may have been thrown together with the Caspers a lot, but it seems that only Sue Cat and I really had good fitting "friend connections" with that family. But with the Petersens's, Sue's wright- the four of us were very good friends (and still are) to our Petersen counterpart. BUT I suppose if you count mom and dad being good friends with Bill and Shirley- maybe the Casper's tip the scales. Mom and dad never hung out with Rod and Marilyn, they might have- had they known each other better. I also could be wrong about the Casper kids and my older siblings, but I don't think Dave hung out with Byron or Ami with the twins or Ben with Bill jr-- but maybe, I really don't know, and can't picture it now. We could also start counting the 2nd generation, mine and Emily's kids- Bruce and Scout are very good friends...
Anyway- sorry your power went out Sue! How lame to have that happen the weekend your husband can't come home. BORING is right. Glad you were able to sleep early.
Oh Haley- do you want your old sws playlist or are you going to send me something new?
Congrats Haley and B and new Em and Jeanine! I've seen that movie but almost totally forgotten about it. Fun one to revisit memories of a bit.
Don't know what you have in mind exactly, Haley, but knowing you a little I'm looking forward to something a little more CHEERFUL in the music department this week! (I like deep, brooding lyrics as much as the next person, but it's the holidays, man!)
See you all in a couple of days! And it's looking good for Alex to come, too! Also Ben (for at least T Day). We're excited!
Good job Haley and B! I meant to send in my guess. Guess I forgot. I knew it from the second quote. Loved this movie! I remember laughing so hard in the theater. I was at the perfect age.
Ditto on Thanksgiving, I am SO STOKED to see Eeee-bah! ("Eee-bah" is an old family parrot's name for "everybody" for those of you who didn't know)
Good job Haley. Nice to get a win again, huh? And Emily, I played a lot with Jeni & Judi when I was young so you could call us pretty good friends. I also remember Bobby coming over a lot and playing booger tag and other "tag" games with us, but I don't you can classify that as good friends. The Caspers were more good friends of the family in general and more out of cirmcumstance and convenience than anything else. We had a lot of good times though.
Good news about Alex and possibly Ben. Where has Ben been lately? Why haven't we heard from him at all? If he can come for Thanksgiving, how will he get here and back? Just curious. We're excited too and hope I can quit coughing and get some work done (so lame I got sick!!). I'm feeling pretty good, no fever, just cough and stuff.
It's sad seeing you sick Aim. I hope you and the Pugh's get feeling better very soon. Awesome news about Ben and Alex!
What is the point of having the "e" lower case in the title for Home Alone? Just noticed that...
I spoke with Ben last night. He's been working a ton of overtime, which is great as he's still trying to catch up from moving expenses. My guess is that's why he hasn't been speaking up much here.
Anyway, he's apparently off from 5pm Wed until noon on Friday and wants to at least have a day with everyone. He's going to work on getting someone to trade for him for a later shift on Friday.
He has access to a pretty nice car (If I remember correctly, it's a late model Nissan Pathfinder) from a friend of his from Impact, so he'd drive that to and from.
Alex is almost a done deal, catching a ride with a friend of the daughter of one of our ward members who goes to school in Cedar City. He'll be here Tuesday sometime and we'll all be taking off as soon as Lorri can get off work on Wednesday (hopefully midday, but she's not 100 percent sure yet).
Yay! I finally got another win! I believe I sent you a second playlist about 2 months ago but I can send another. This is Haley by the way.
I just added one myself Em so you don't need to worry about it. Glad Ben and Alex are able to make it! Awesome!
Haha on the Replay song I added, I just think it's pretty catchy! Dan wanted chipper music so I am happy to oblige!
Hey you all, welcome back on the blog. It has been kinda sparce the last week. Nice work, Haley on the SWS. Home Alone has been fun to watch all these years. Funny I could not place the quotes. I think I may have a door handle on the new quote. My father was an Oldsmoble man. We had a 51 88, a 56 and a 58 and mom and I had a neat 62 88 rocket. I had a business car a 69 Olds Toronado. The first front wheel drive GM car. Huge V8 engine, got about 11 MPH. It could sure move!
Love the talk about the Petersons and the Caspers and your old friends. WV is purgedot. Must be a message to get off the computer.
Yeah, I admittedly don't listen to a lot of chipper music. In fact, before I discovered Radiohead, my favorite band was The Cure. Guess I'm just deep and brooding.
Perhaps the tiny e (hee hee) is small to symbolize Kevin being the youngest (smallest) and tail member of the family and he is the one that is home alone. If you look at it in compared to the other letters of the title, the e looks kind of vulnerable.
It also could just be there to add a little interest and character to the title, if it was big like the rest, that title would be a lot more boring.
I don't think I've ever used the word "chipper" in my life but I kind of like it! Too funny, Em, about The Cure. I'm guessing my list of all-time favorite songs would mostly be dominated by deep and brooding sentiments, too. I was just having a little fun (another dig) about our recent immersion in RH and other pathos-filled tunes here on the blog.
Liking most of your choices Haley. I'm intrigued by the Iron and Wine song. Don't think I'd heard it before. I like Adam Lambert but don't really like this single. And his AMA performance last night was a bit too much even for me.
Holy cow, Adam Lambert on the AMAs was the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen.
You'll have to tell me about it- I missed it but if his album cover is any indication........
That Iron and Wine song is from when Bella and Edward dance at prom in the Twilight movie isn't it? Had I not just watched it with Cat, I never ever would have known, but I am pretty confident I'm right.
YouTube it, Em. It's just awful!
Never have gotten the appeal of S&M.
He's a great performer, but I'd much rather hear him just stand and deliver rather than get involved in spectacle.
I totally agree with you, Dan.
WTB???!!!
I just watched the performance on youtube and have to admit I'm quite shocked. That was totally ridiculous. Guess he wanted to one up Lady Gaga or something (I'll show you up- no one's going to remember the time you hung from a meat hook on stage!)
I am also in the camp of "what in the world is the appeal of s&m?" Total enigma.
I look forward to hearing from our sweet and innocent Adam Lambert fans on the performance.
That is B and Haley if you didn't guess.
WTBip!! I had to get "with it" so I watched the Adam Lambert mess on YouTube. I don't get S&M either and don't get Lambert doing that kind of thing on TV. I never thought I would say it, but I miss Michael Jackson and a little crotch grabbing.
Kelly watched it and told me about it, heard it's pretty raunchy. Very disappointing. He did some pretty raunchy stuff at the American Idol concert which I think is rediculous! Ok, that was disgusting...just watched it. I think he's going to lose a lot of fans doing this crap.
Haha Dad!! Good one. He made Michael Jackson look like he could be the host of reading rainbow or something now.
I too just watched it and am in shock. WTB??!! Ridiculous is right! Everything about it sucked. Even the singing was so off key and screamy. And did he trip?? Is that why he rolled like that and stopped singing for a second?? HAHAHA!! I had to laugh when he made out with the key board player guy. It was like "yeah, that's right... I'm gay and I am going to prove it right.... NOW!!"
I always was fascinated with his talent as a singer, but he just made a total fool of himself. That was freakin' dirty.
And yes, the Iron & Wine song is the song they dance to at the prom in Twilight. Cool song, I like it a lot.
Woo hoo! I'm glad I took a chance and got the quote right :) Once upon a time, Home Alone held a high spot on my dad's Top Ten list, so for about a year we could count on hearing a selection of scenes drifing up from downstairs. Classic.
Long live Wright-Petersen friendships!
That was genius Em about the title of Home Alone. You've got to be right. The "e" looks like it's all alone. Didn't even think of that.
I never thought I would say it, but I miss Michael Jackson and a little crotch grabbing.
-George Wright
HAHAHA! That made me laugh. I also laughed just as hard at Matt and his explanation of making out with the keyboard player.....That's right! I'm gay! Now I have to watch it again to see him possibly trip.
That Fightless Bird song is really growing on me. Thanks Haley for doing your own playlist, it was a nice little break. I don't mind doing them, but was happy to see it all done for me when I got online today.
Sorry I spelled Petersen wrong Emily! I know better. I'm really bad with son/sen last names, even with people I've known for 25 years or so. I agree about the Casper thing. I think our friendships came about more from proximity than anything. Although, I did truly like Charlie a lot and wish we were still in touch. The Petersen's however, lived on the opposite end of Mapleton, so it wasn't forced, just natural. And mom and dad weren't friends with their parents like they went out to dinners and stuff, but I think they liked and respected each other quite a bit. I remember dad having some very, very nice things to say about Marilyn when he heard she passed.
Anyhoo, only this family can have conversations that go from Home Alone, to Thanksgiving to S&M! I heard about the Adam Lambert thing this morning on the radio, I have no interest at all in him, so I have no interest on watching the video. I heard Jennifer Lopez fell, I would rather watch that video. And I had no idea this family was so against S&M, I guess Cam and I will leave the Gimp at home for Thanksgiving.
"Bring out the gimp" haha!
I wondered when I saw it if he tripped too. That roll was so lame! I keep having half a thought to watch it again to see if you can tell for sure, but I just don't think I can watch that again. I think his performance was really bad as well; it was just so insipid. Nothing like his performances on AI.
That crotch grabbing line is too funny, George. Thanks for the laugh!
Does anyone remember in the Michael Jackson movie, isn't there a discussion between the choreographer and the dancers about whether there is any actual grabbing of "the package" when doing the crotch move? Anyway, I kind of remember something like that and how she thought it was a move to emphasize hip movement rather than an opportunity to "handle" equipment.
Anyway, Lambert definitely was interested in more than just emphasizing hip movements. Ugh. Want to like him and hope he'll learn from reactions that this stuff won't fly with a lot of us.
The gimp riff was pretty funny for Pulp Fiction fans, Sue, but WAY adventurous as well. Hope B won't know what you're talking about...
Am I the only one who doesn't know what S&M is?
I've seen Pulp Fiction but still have to ask "what the bip is a gimp"? Maybe some one can whisper in my ear at thanksgiving, but don't get too close. hahaha. Yeah, I saw the trip and roll and thought he did trip. The internet said the keyboad player is a streight (sp) guy. Mom nearly worships Adam Lambert. I don't know if I want her to see the video and mess with her mind. He is off the edge of propriety in my opinion. Sick dude! Thanks guys, for the shout out on the M.J. quip! I love being a little off the wall at times. kisses
Haley doesn't know what S&M even is!!! That is so funny and makes Em's 'innocents' comment even funnier!
The gimp thing was totally for the Pulp Fiction fans in the family, nothing at all to do in my real life.
And cute, sweet, innocent Haley, it's refreshing to hear you don't know what S&M is. But as your aunt, it's my duty to give you a very brief, very non-descriptive explanation. It stands for sadomasicism. It is those people who are into leather and whips and pain because they hate themselves so much, they feel they deserve pain and verbal abuse. 'nough said.
Dad, the gimp is in the scene when Marsellus and Bruce Willis find themselves tied to chairs in the basement of the Pawn Shop. The gimp is the guy in leather that Zed and the pawn shop guy bring out.
Oh my gosh Sue... I almost fell out of my chair laughing so hard at your gimp comment!
I love Pulp Fiction so much. B should know what it was too. That scene scarred her pretty bad. You might just be facing the wrath of B for bringing it up.
B and I have recently had a discussion on that very scene, so she knows and is indeed scarred for life.
Dad maybe you blocked that scene out of PF, not the most pleasant moment of the movie (of a movie with little pleasant scenes, yet great).
Ok, my second favorite thing dad has done today is to blow kisses to his adoring fans.
I must have gotten that MJ scene wrong, I thought she was lecturing them on not grabbing their crotches (is that how you spell crotches?) realistically enough. And if hip emphasizing is what Micheal was trying to do, he failed, because a man grabbing his crotch for no apparent reason is all I can see there.
Sue- nice breezy explanation of s and m. It brought to mind me trying to explain (something else and nastier) to B on my blog. Remember that?
Yes thanks Sue for the watered down explanation. I can honestly say I've never heard of that term or anything. That whole thing in Adam's show was so gross with like the leashes and stuff. Sick. I got tired of his song so I changed up my playlist a bit. I have always been pretty quiet with all the Neil Young talk but I secretly love this song. It's about time it came out.
Em, I vaguely remember that, but I seem to have blocked the memory of what it was. That's probably for the better.
Haley, dang you for beating me! But it still felt good to finally know a quote!! And I had to ask Matt what S & M was too. But I unfortunately know what the gimp is!
I'm thinking I don't want to see Adam Lambert's performance. I'll just remember his cute moves during "I Can't Get No Satisfaction" and leave it at that.
I'll probably never ever get to have a playlist on here, so I'll just tell you all my choices. Underdog by Spoon, Starlight by Muse, The Way You Make Me Feel by MJ, When You Say Nothing At All by Alison Krauss, Waiting on a Friend by the Rolling Stones, Pretend To Be Nice by Josie and the Pussycats and Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus. Oh, and You Make Me Feel Like Dancing by The Wiggles, just for you Em.
Ouch B! Not only did you come close to winning but got beat by Haley, she put a Neil Young song on her playlist! HA! That's got to rankle a little.
Sorry if we tainted Adam Lambert for you today to the point of taking him off your playlist Haley. He did it to himself though!
B- I never did explain to you what that term meant, I didn't want to scar you (and it would have).
Yeah Em, it was mostly that I realized that I really don't like the song that much!
Matt explained to me what the "Gimp" was. I know the scene well but with my lack of hearing in the old days I didn't hear him called gimp. I don't know why I like Pulp Fiction so much. Every thing about it is a shocker. Whip me, I'm bad...
This posting breaks all time records for getting to 40 comments the fastest. Waytogo, troops. You are really with it today.
I was checking the comments and saw my name mentioned a few times. I have Thanksgiving off but I have to work the day before and the day after, but on Friday not until 12 noon so if I left early, I could make it back in time. So I could leave after work Wed, and get there late and stay all of Thurs and leave Friday. It would be so awesome to see all of you, I haven't been to a Thanksgiving for a few years. So if I have the money for gas, it looks like I'll be there, at least for a day. I've been working some long hours and I've also been staying with someone from work who lives in Heber which is much closer to work to save gas money so I haven't had much time to keep up with the blog and emails and stuff. I don't mean to seem like I'm ignoring everybody, especially you Matt. I've been so happy to hear from you and I can't wait to talk with you and reconnect. I'll write very soon, promise.
Hope I can see you guys for Thanksgiving!
Wow, I missed a lot of discussion and don't quite have the energy and time to comment on everything, so just briefly: I had no idea either what the bip S&M was. I thought it was some rap singer or something. I was lost at the Gimp comment, too. (you didn't include me as one of the "innocent's") Saw enough of Adam at the AI concert to just be satified listening to his past AI performances on my ipod and pretend that he is behaving himself. Dad made me laugh. The choreographer in "This is It" did lecture them on not grabbing "the package". I love Heart of Gold, too. And, Ben, don't feel guilty, we were just wondering how you were doing and are really excited you're coming here for Thanksgiving! Glad you are working hard and can't wait to hear about your job and have a real chef helping us with dinner! JK you can have a break. We might ask for some advice, though. So glad Alex can come too. This is going to be so fun!
Well, I'm pretty sure as of now, Lambert hasn't learned his lesson. This morning on the news I heard he is claiming himself victorious. He thinks he made a big victory for freedom of expression. Just because you can, does that mean you should??
Personally, I think he dug his own little grave for future record sales-or maybe he's the next Madonna, what do I know?
Agree he is being an idiot in how he's responding to the complaints, etc, especially if he wants to bring the vast majority of his AI fans into his post Idol career. I have to believe it will hurt album sales. But, as you say, maybe he's going for Madonna like cult status and who's to predict whether or not that's a dumb business decision.
Hey everybody, Things are not looking good right now for Thanksgiving. There's still a possibility, but I might not be able to make it up. I would like to get together and see everybody but it might have to wait until Christmas or sometime. I'll see what I can do and I'll let you know. Miracles can and do happen.
We hope so Ben. Let us know if there's anything we can do to help.
I think Adam is being stupid, too. At the concert, he was definitely the crowd favorite, until he performed. The audience (made up of mostly teenage girls and their mom's) was kindof stunned and I think the girls were all saying, "mommy!!". I think he'll be sorry and will lose a lot of fans and record sales, but then again, like Emily said, who knows? Look what does sell. A lot of garbage!
Things have got a little better. I might be able to come up for Thanksgiving. Don't know for sure yet, but it's a good possibility.
Well, it looks like I can get to Wyoming. I can't stay long, but it's going to be fun seeing everybody. I should be there around 10 pm unless I can get an earlier start. See y'all tomorrow!
Yay! glad you can make it. We'll look forward to seeing you. Drive safe everybody!! the weather seems to be cooperating.
Yea, Ben. You and all the peeps driving be careful. I you can't make it until Thanksgiving day, Sue. Too bad you will miss a ton of fun Wednesday.
I didn't do any quotes during the week since I was with all of you in Riverton! That was a very fun weekend. I'm going to let this one ride until next Sunday. Here is your next quote:
You used up all the glue, ON PURPOSE!
Here is your Wednesday hint:
I won I won I won! A major prize A major prize A major prize! Tonight Tonight Tonight its coming tonight!
Hot damn tonight!
I think I got it. If I won I want to put some cool xmas tunes on our blog. Hope everyone is getting into the spirit!
