Up - 4 Stars
We watched this movie last night and we absolutely loved it! It came out on DVD two days ago. It is a Disney/Pixar so the animation is great and it is all very well done. It is a heartwarming adventure story. It has some really great lessons in it as well. It is a must see for all ages. It also has some great humor. There is a Golden Retriever in it named Doug and I think he was my favorite character, really funny! It follows Mr. Frederickson, Russell, Doug, and Kevin on their adventure to get to Paradise Falls. I don't want to explain the whole story line because it will ruin it. I am making no sense and this is a really hud sauce review but it really is a great movie so you all need to watch it!

I've been wanting to see this. I'll have to check it out. Disney/Pixar movies are so great.
We loved Up when we saw it in the theater. Can't wait to get it on DVD. It's really a fa ... SQUIRREL!!!
Mom and I saw it at the theater. Liked it a lot. Loved the dog and the lessons.
So no one thought my "squirrel" interruption was funny? (sulk, sulk)
I haven't seen the movie Dan, so I guess the joke went over my head, had I seen it, perhaps I would have found it funny...................and then I'd have promptly taken it back after that dig about Radiohead not being music.
Dig? Dig?! It was simply a question...
(Actually the "squirrel" joke is awfully obvious for those who've seen the movie, so I don't really blame anyone for not sending in a smile. I could have done better for sure.)
I laughed at the squirrel comment, just didn't say anything about it. Sorry! I was going to but never did. I love Doug, he was so fu POINT!!!!
Simply a question eh? Well, by all means then let me answer it.
Yes, Radiohead is music, in fact it's the most addicting music I have ever come across in my life. It's intelligently written and complex- their songs can sound normal and pass in the night to you for a time and then once you've listened to it enough (usually about the time it takes to hum along or sing a line or two of a song) it starts it's transformation into something else and you wonder how you possibly could have missed what was right in front of you.
Their songs aren't your average catchy pop songs that you catch on to right away, they need to be allowed to gradually sink into your bones. You need time and a little intelligence to start appreciating them, but perhaps you aren't up to the task..... that's ok Dan, I understand.
ZING!
Love the abuse!! Zing me more, More, MORE!
I have actually looked at RH lyrics and agree that they are very interesting and often very intriguing. (That's one thing I really liked checking into when Matt had his songs up and going. Really some fascinating kinds of intelligence running through them.) So far of the current RH songs on this week's list, I like the Jeff Buckley and Fiona Apple ones the best (ha ha!). Seriously, I like the sound of House of Cards and will continue to try to give all of them good listens. I just am used to things that are a bit more easily recognized as melodic. Willing to grow though (isn't that the sign of true intelligence?).
Sorry Haley, but it looks like Em and I have hijacked this thread about the movie Up for our little course on music appreciation! (We could move it to the SWS thread if you want, Em.)
Forgot to say your POINT line was great!
Lorri just bought the Up DVD for us. Can't wait to watch it again.
It's pretty easy to zing a man that just called Coldplay "melodic".
heehee.
Check this post out: http://emily-lifeinaglasshouse.blogspot.com/2009/01/thom-yorke-master-lyricist.html it's a little post I did on my blog that highlights a couple songs who's lyrics impress me. You may just thank me as it will acquaint you with one of the greatest songs ever written- Paranoid Android. "Let Down" is also dynamite, oh heck, they all are.
Yes, definitely keeping yourself open to new ideas is a sign of intelligence, good for you for recognizing that. Haley is used to the hijacked comment forums, they are a longstanding KWAW tradition. Look at Jeanine's birthday post- that one got hijacked with Chrols speak (perhaps you could change the name to Ehrols- that may be more appropriate regarding your feelings these days).
I don't mind being hijacked, haha.
Easy to zing someone who used "that" instead of "who" in her zing of me. [hee hee] (Actually not technically "wrong" but a less preferred usage.)
Too funny about Coldplay! (But, seriously, I think everyone here would at least call their stuff "more" melodic than Radiohead!)
Excited to explore your blogthoughts about them. Maybe you'll win me over (and I DO have an addictive personality, so it's pretty possible).
Glad to know the threadjack is part of the tradition!
EHROLS? Is the E for "Edward" or "Emily"? Ha!
Right now I'd really be voting for BHROLS (B for Bella).
Oh yeah, I forgot to add earlier that I actually had long kind of liked RH's "Creep" (so I've never really been a total hater).
I think my favorite zing there would have to be the "E for Emily" one! Ha! That was good stuff.
Dan said:

To that I say:
Yes, but we would also call it "more" likely to cause sleep comas.
Lastly, what can I say- you got me on the grammar. No retort.
You are not the only one with an addictive personality. How do you think I got to the point I'm at with RH? About 9 years ago 3 different friends recommended them to me, I bought OK Computer and one day found myself consumed. By consumed I mean looking up lyrics, meanings, downloading b sides from itunes, writing happy birthday posts to band members on my blog (happy birthday Jonny Greenwood 10 days ago!!!!!!), and that's just a portion of it.
Glad you liked my picks Dan. I like them too :) Lot more where that came from, if I could just get my act together and win SWS more often... I think B actually won this week! Early this morning she nailed it.
I'm having fun with this thread. Thanks, guys! Too funny on your addiction level and the yet-another Coldplay rip, Em! Matt, you will have to fill me in on great bands and songs I'm not aware of sometime during our time together at Thanksgiving.
Way to go B and anyone else who may already have this week's SWS. I've definitely seen this one but can't place it yet. Still I get motivated by the possibility of being in the runner-up list and will keep trying.
My WV: fating (Emily "fated" to like Coldplay someday? Me working on shrinking this "fat" bod? Intriguing possibilities...).
I like Matt's music too.
I got this week's, but it wasn't until this afternoon so I am out, Haley why did you remove your comment? Dan you better get yourself on a diet, cause I am not fated to like Coldplay. Just letting you know where the fates are surely headed.
Day 4 of the diet. But still you should NEVER underestimate the hypnotic voice of Chris Martin... Who knows what the fates have in store: you might be naming your next baby Apple.
[Again, this whole Coldplay thing cracks me up because I'm not all that big a fan!]
Are you crazy going on a diet right before Thanksgiving? Just wondering.
The Coldplay thing cracks me up too, not only because I realize you aren't near the fan we give you crap for being, but really- what I know about the band and the amount of their songs I have heard is all shamefully little.
Just all good fun.
I just was saying that I got the movie last night. Then I thought that was dumb and bragging so I deleted it. How did you know it was me?
I got an email message with the comment on it. I thought it had to do with getting SWS though, I guess that one was with a different thread. I was wondering why you took back that you got this week's last night. But I suppose you didn't erase that one, I just got confused. Braggart.
(Haha, just kidding.)
By the way Dan, do you really like Fiona Apple or were you just using her placement on my playlist as fodder for zinging RH?
Figured it would be good to have a little momentum going into the holidays, so a friend and I started a little support group. I'd been kind of depressed for the past couple of months and packed some on that I definitely feel. I'm sure I'll eat at Thanksgiving but am glad to have all of it in my consciousness a bit better.
I got an email with your note before you deleted it, too, Haley. All I can say is there's nothing wrong with a little trash talkin'! ("Braggart"! Love it, Em!)
I had never heard that Fiona Apple song before but do kind of like it after hearing it a time or two now (but as you guessed, mostly my comment was made then in the spirit of my anti-RH banter).
