5 random things that always make me laugh

I love to laugh and I'm so glad I come from a family that loves to laugh. It makes me so happy that we can all sit around a living room or kitchen table and just giggle for hours. I can't imagine what it would be like to come from one of those quiet, boring families. I thought I would share with everyone 5 random things that can get me laughing pretty hard everytime. A couple of them are photos, a couple are memories and one is simply a word! And these aren't in any special order.

5- The picture of me that Amy took at La Jolla beach when the birds attacked me, Cat and Matt. When I first saw the picture, I don't know if I've ever laughed that hard. Thank you Amy for turning around and snapping that photo. It was about a year later that I noticed mom in the far left corner just happily watching her kids get attacked by birds.

4- Cat's Frankenstein cookie. I guess I should have added a picture, but it's here somewhere on the blog. It makes me laugh so hard whenever I think of it. I don't know what makes me laugh harder, the cookie itself or the memory of Em laughing so hard she couldn't even tell us what was so funny.

3- This is really random, but Scott's dream child named Grover. Em and Cat are probably the only ones who know what I'm talking about. But when Amy and Scott were still dating, Scott used to talk about his future kids and what type of kids he wanted. The best one was named Grover and he fit in Scott's hand, I think he was just a head. Just remembering Scott talking about him and how hard it used to make us laugh cracks me up to no end.

2- This picture of a little girl who looks like Chris Farley that Cat emailed me a couple of years ago. I think it speaks for itself.

1- The last name Higgenbotham. First, it is just one of those silly last names. Second it reminds me of one of the funniest days I had at my last job. My friend Kristen (my puppet partner), and I were working. She spoke with someone who's last name was Higgenbotham and it cracked her up. A couple of hours later I spoke with someone who's last name was Wigglesworth, and it cracked me up. We spent the rest of the day laughing about these last names. We imagined how funny it would be if people with those last names started a law office. We imagined the receptionist answering the phone "law office of Higgenbotham and Wigglesworth, how may I help you?". Then the phone being transferred to Wigglesworth and him answering "Wigglesworth here". I know it is totally stupid and juvenile, but it made me laugh so hard! This was probably 5 years ago, and to this day just remembering that day can get me laughing so hard tears run down my face.

There are lots of other things that can make me laugh hard by just thinking about them. These are the first 5 that came to mind when I thought of doing this post. I could probably do a top 5 memories of Matt that make me laugh.

He he. I hope that is a good thing.

I am also very glad we all laugh so much. I know a LOT of people that hardly ever laugh. So sad.

Of course it's a good thing Matt. You're the funniest person I know! 2 things I can think of right now that involve you that make me laugh are:
1- That picture of you in my phone that only comes up when you call me. Have I ever answered my phone not laughing?

2- A couple of years ago when we were all at PJ Chinks and you tried to do a magic trick for Booker and you botched it. You slammed your fist down on a napkin and crushed a fortune cookie. You lifted up the napking and said "my bad". I still don't know what the trick was that you were trying to do. Cam and I still laugh about it.

Matt Wright said...

HA! I remember you laughing at that. I guess it would be pretty funny from that end. That was actually part of the trick though! That was just the distraction from the real trick. But when I got the the real trick, nobody cared because you were all laughing. And Booker just lost interest. Magic is dumb.

Those are great, Sue. I have a picture of mine & Em's frankenstein cookies and the Chris Farley girl on my bulletin board at work. They make me laugh everyday too.

Haha! I like this post. A few things that come to mind that always make me laugh are:

1)My Carousel Ice Cream story. My friend Shawna was at a table taking an order and tried to say, "whip, nuts, and a cherry" and she got tripped up and it came out, "whips, nuts, and a nut." I honestly couldn't tell my tables what came on a sundae without laughing for 2 whole weeks.

2) While in Seattle for Megan's wedding, Cath and I and Emily and our friend Matisse were invited to a party thrown by the male side of the wedding party (this was a day after the wedding, so the couple were gone). I was quite a silly night for a few reasons, but we were leaving the party at like midnight and were planning to drive home or as far as we could get without dying that night. We were at the car and I don't remember what brought this on, but Cath started telling us about a Japanese game show she had watched. It was skinny people vs. fat people and the fat people had to slide down this greased up slide and I don't remember their object, but the skinny people were given huge wings and had to walk against these huge fans trying to blow them away. That whole concept is really funny in itself, BUT Catherine imitating them on the curb that night and trying to explain it was so funny! She would pretend she had the big wings on and struggling against the fan and then pant and take a rest and then go, "whoaaaaa!" and get blown backwards. Ah, that was a funny night.....

3)Sue, Matt's picture in my phone when he calls me is one of mine too. It is a funny picture in it's own right, but the story behind it is my favorite. He sneaked Amy's phone when she wasn't looking, took the picture himself and then saved it as her wallpaper for a little treat next time she used her phone.

Sue said...

The picture in my phone is the same one! Amy sent it to me and she saved it in my phone. I can't figure out where she saved it. The only time I see it is when Matt calls me.

And yes, the story behind that picture is hilarious! I think I would have died laughing if I opened my phone and saw that picture.

Sue, you bum! I read this post last night and then when I woke up about 3:21 AM to pee and scratch Duncan's ear I couldn't go back to sleep at all thinking about all the funny things I was going to post in the comments. I had them all catagoried: top 5, next 5 and so on to Honorable mention etc. Now in cold daylight I can't remember so many, but here are a few in no particular order: 1. Family reunion in Idaho..The Sid Jensen family with their violins, violas, and cellos and my Wright family with Scott hanging from the rafters like a chimp and doing fart noise and us all laughing like crazy.
2. You kids trying to hide Anne in the PortaPotty as we left for the vacation in NoCal and the scene where Anne drinks Pacific Ocean water and spits and makes a face.
3. Christmas morning the night Will godfrey put the turkeys, sheep and geese in our front yard and the Monk that scared the bejeebies out of me when I went into the living room.
4. Always the scened of the Mexicans kicking Beverly's coffin into the crypt from the forklift.
5. When I was a scared 12 year old giving a talk in church in Chula Vista at the American Legion Hall we rented and I made a spontanious joke about a light going on and off (procrastinating the theme of the talk) on the ceiling and the congregation laughed. The first time in public for me to get a laugh and I liked it so much...Never got over it and I still try to get a laugh in church.
.....it goes on and on. Please encourage me to write my jounal and story......got a million of em!

Sue said...

hahahahaha!! Just cause you woke up in the middle of the night so you could scratch your dog's ear does not mean I'm a bum!

Those things you mentioned are hilarious! I love your story of getting your first laugh at church. I don't find the Uncle Will story as funny, I almost fainted I was so scared! Annie drinking out of the ocean was hilarious!

You must remember all the ones you thought of last night dad! I want them in categories too! Here's a funny dad thing:

When we were playing Abstracts and dad was trying to get his team to guess Liberace, and when asked what shape he would be he said "a gay piano player!".

Pops said...

I keep getting a "bad rap" for being a "weenie" in those games and now you bring up the "gay piano player" thing. hahaha, I'll never be allowed to play those games... Our family is kinda nuts. It must be mothers fault!

Sue said...

Dad your weenie comments are what makes those games the most fun. I think the only person who has ever gotten truley frustrated by them is Dan. And that would make it even funnier because he was so serious about it and we would all be laughing at one of your answers. Good times.

Pops said...

Yep! Laughing at Dan behind his back because he is so serious at all the games is one of the things that make me laugh.

Emily said...

When dad said his "gay piano player" line he did a couple slaps on the table with his hands in a kind of rhythm, my thought is to distract us a little. That does make me laugh so much. Also, this was RIGHT after he had gotten told off by all of us for a previous wienie, so he was already on thin ice and knew it. I believe it was trying to say "body bag" in a way that body bag had no business in being, much like a gay piano player has no business being a "shape". But I can't remember exactly how he tried to do it.

I am glad you can laugh at those guys kicking your sister's coffin into it's crypt. It's awful but, I'm afraid it is just so funny.

Sue said...

Oh yeah! I remember the body bag answer too. It was right before the gay piano player answer. And I do remember dad slapping his hands on the table after saying it, that is one of the funniest parts of it. He totally knew he was going to get in trouble for his answer.

I'm thinking his body bag answer was to the question "if you were a mode of transportation, what would you be?" Does anyone remember? Dad? Cat, Haley, Amy, Matt? I think you guys were all there.

Emily said...

I think you are right! I think he did try to pass a body bag off as a mode of transportation. HAHA!!

Sue said...

The more I think of it, the more I think it was mode of transportation. Because with Liberace, there were SO many other options that would have made a lot more sense! Wasn't Liberace known for driving really flashy cars like Bentlys or Rolls Royces and cars like that?

Pops said...

crap! crap! crap! I just lost about a half hour of writing a new story and stuff. You sure have to be careful. I'm at work and don't have anything else to do and the plane is late so I'll try again..sorry...

Liberace was all about flashy. I don't know much about his "mode of transportation" but if he used a body bag, I bet it had sequines and rinestones all over it and it would be shaped like a gay piano player. hehehe.

Now, here is a personal story. Is it healthy to laugh at yourself? You physobabbleing peeps should know. Anyway.....1962 at BYU in the fall and Will and I were phesant hunting in an alfalfa field near Mona. Walking along we come to a dirt ditch with about a foot of water in the bottom and it's about 5 feet across. Will steps and hoppes over it and go and get my feet tangled up and trip and in a nanosecond I am on my face, streached out, under water with my arms streached above my head and my shotgun under water. Will is on the bank laughing like crazy. I have never lived that one down and I have since then been known as a klutz around water. Later in the morning I take a shot at a phasant and the gun sort-of goes pop and bebes just roll out the end of the barrel with a little smoke. The ammo got wet!

Sue said...

Yes, it's healthy to laugh at yourself! If you can't laugh at yourself, you have no right to laugh at anyone else!

Your story is hilarious! My favorite part is when the gun goes pop and the bebes just roll out the end. I can just picture Uncle Will laughing at that! Didn't you and Will write a book about your water adventures? I can kind of picture the cover, did it have aluminum foil on it or something? And it had a silly name too. What happened to that?

Emily said...

That was great. The smoke and beebees rolling out was my favorite part also. I bet Will was beside himself. I know you laughed.

Matt Wright said...

Awesome story Pops! You have to write your life story. Or we can just record all your stories into one of my microphones and put them on CD's! YESSS!!

To clear up the guessing on Dads Abstract answers, I believe I remember quite clearly.

Question: "If you were an article of clothing, what would you be?"
Answer: "a body bag"

Question:
"If you were a shape what would you be?"
Answer:
"The shape of a gay piano player" (two hand slaps on the table)

Emily said...

MATT!!! That is totally it! Article of clothing. Was that about Liberace or an old one? Cause it seems he had some better choices then body bag with Liberace in the clothes department.

Sue said...

You totally nailed it Matt! It was article of clothing! And it was to the Liberace one. Because that is what Dan jumped down dad's throat about because there are so many other clothing options when it comes to Liberace. Fur coats, sequins etc.

Pops said...

About the Will Godfrey writing. I forgot about that...It was a Christmas joke present that he wrote and covered in aluminium foil. It was "Fall-in insurance" and truly funny, but I can't quote from it Wright now. I might still have it in my file cabnet or a box somewhere...funny stuff! Thanks for remembering that.
Those Liberace pictures on that web site, Ems are way funny. He was some character! Did we take you guys to the Liberace museium in Las Vegas?

Pops said...

Hey, Matt and B. what ever happen to the picture you took of the "Prudence" cookie?
