THE HOST

I finished "The Host" Saturday. I liked it a lot. Very much, and I don't read science fiction much. But it was interesting to me and well written and after you figured out who was who and who was talking to who and all that, it made sense and I was compelled to like the Wanderer. I was on the couch by the tree reading the ending (before the postlude) Saturday afternoon, and I was chokeing up and a few tears were rolling and mom came in and said, "are you crying?" of course I said no and went on with reading with my head turned away. Can you believe that? I'm such a boob. Have you guys heard the story of the sister in our Sacrament Fast & testimony meeting that was bareing her testimony and chokeing and crying and at the end she said, " I'm such a big boob! At the end of the meeting the conducting bishopric member got up to close the meeting and said, "We like big boobs in our ward" Silence, then a spattering of laughter and then more and more as the statement sunk in. hehehehe... One of the better humor meetings attended.

I would like to read The Host. That sacrament meeting story is one of the best ever! Thanks for refreshing my memory Pops.

YOU would like to read The Host? I thought you were allergic to all things Sci Fi.

I'm glad you liked it dad. I want to read it again. I found the whole concept of the book/love triangle very unique and interesting. As much as I am not a fantasy fan, I really really avoid Sci fi, but really enjoyed that book. Before it came out, Stephenie touted it as "a sci fi book for people that don't like sci fi" and she was right. I seem to remember sobbing myself during that scene.

I have been thinking a little bit about a response to your comment Em. True, I may hate fantasy, But Sci-Fi brings to mind stuff like Aliens, Big Foot, Nessy, Ghost stories and even time travel.... Which are all things that kinda interest me. Not in an obsessed weird way, but if a show is on, I may watch it for a while. I also thought about WHY I like it. I think it's because all of those things (except time travel) are all controversial things that people are convinced they have seen or believe in. THAT IS COOL! You can always ask yourself if you think it's real or a prank or just our minds playing tricks on us.
To me that is WAYYY different than Dragons, Fairies, Magic Wands, Dwarves and flying broom-stick games. In other words, HUD SAUCE.
I want to read The Host because B told me about it and it sounded pretty cool, Dad read it and loved it. I want to read a Stephenie Meyer book because I hear all the time what a great writer she is, and I don't think I want to read the Spider Monkey books yet. B knows me pretty well and thinks I would like The Host. (she has never said that about Harry Potter or any of the millions of fantasy books she read as a child)

To me, the only sci-fi worth reading is Kurt Vonnegut. Yes, he writes about aliens and time travel. But it's all written as satire. And it's some of the funniest bippen stuff ever written.

I read a lot of "time quake" by Kurt Vonnegut, which was about time travel. I liked it a lot, but didn't finish because I went on a mission. I don't remember it much now.

When Sci fi is brought up, all I think of is Star Wars and Star Trek. I can stomach Sci Fi concept movies more so then books. I do have a certain fascination for Aliens, big foot, nessie, etc. I read one Vonnegut "Slaughter House 5" and was like -huh, ok.
These are all random thoughts I am having a hard time stringing together. Oh well - Happy New Year!

One more, I'd be interested to see you read The Host Matt.

Yes, I agree that you should Matt. I'm not a sci fi person and I loved the book. She makes it interesting and not nerdy. I'm glad that Grandpa liked it. I recall that I shed a few tears at the end as well. Hehe.

Speaking of Sci Fi, books and movies, one of my favorate movies is "Contact" with Jodie Foster which just happens to be Science fiction. Matthew McConohey, aka, Hud Sauce, also is in the movie in one of his poorer roles. But I love the story, all the other bit players and the weird ending. Prime good!
