Body Worlds Anyone?

So, I am really interested in seeing this. I have been hearing about it for a long time and was surprised to see it in was coming to Utah. I heard it was only here until Nov., but now the site seems to think it will be around until Jan 11th. I think I'll trust the site, rather then rumors at my work. I am a little put off by the admission ($22), so I am stewing about it.

Any Utah peeps interested? Or Wyoming peeps interested enough to make a trip out here sometime before Jan? It looks REALLY interesting. As I explored more about it, I kind of thought Scott might have some interest.

This is the third exibit this artist has made, and this one is Body World 3 which focuses on the heart, there is one with the entire blood vessel system in tact:
Rad.

Ugh, not the best thing to look at when you are nautious and eating a cranberry muffin!!!

Travis and I have been talking about going to this for a while. We'd be game. Nerd contest results: too close to call.

I saw the display in Las Vegas when Skippy and I were there last Feb. It was very interesting, even awesome but somewhat creepy. I don't know if it is the same display but looks like it. Amazing seeing all the blood vessels or seeing all the ligaments and muscles. Most interesting study of anatamony. I thought Scott would be more interested than he was, for he didn't go. Showed all the nervous system and I could see the nerve that pinches off going through a bone in the face that causes Bell's Pallsey that I had. Worth seeing!!

me,me,me,me! I've been wanting to go to this from when I first heard about it. I've also been collecting coupins for it. There are usually $3 off coupins in the hometown values coupon thing that comes in the mail once in a while. I think I have 3 of them.

I've heard the line for this can be as long as 2 hours. So they say the best thing to do is buy tickets for a later date. There is a much shorter line for advance tickets. They only let a certain number of people in at a time, so you buy tickets for a certain time of day, and you get in lickity split!

@#$%!@#$#$????? Those are dead bodies. Dead human bodies. I've never been to an open casket funeral, and you guys want me to go wander through a building of dead people made into art?!?! I'm so freaked out. I'm all for being open minded and experiencing culture, but wandering through a building of dead, fleshless bodies just reeks of a horror movie where the scared one dies first. And Matt will jump the barrier and make one of them move when I come around the corner. I would have to get used to this idea for a while. Maybe I can babysit Scout while you guys go see it. But knowing Scout, she'll want to see this.

Cat said...

I just check the website. It is in Salt Lake until Jan. 11.

I thought this might have the possibility of scarring you B! Yes, they are dead human bodies, but while there may be an element of creepiness, it is not like movie horror stuff here. Bodies and muscles and all of that are fascinating and artistic in themselves. There is a bit of a science nerd in me when it comes to stuff like this. They also have bodies that have been sliced down the middle and put in between glass and that sounds really cool (we saw something like that in Chicago). I guess I look at it through more "doctor's eyes" rather then "wow this is a dead body".
This is just the way I see it.
Let it stew for a while, if you still don't want to go, that is totally fine. If Matt does, I will take you up on your babysitting offer as I think Scout is too young to see it (however much she might enjoy it).

Sue said...

Ha, ha. I was waiting for B's comment! I knew she would be @!$# about it. She is so right, if Matt was there, he would do whatever he could to scare us. We would probably get kicked out if Matt was there.

Cat-are you planning on bringing Booker? I had a picture advertising this on my fridge when he spent the weekend with me. He said his teacher told the class about it, and Booker seemed pretty interested in going.

Cat said...

I think Booker would find it very interesting indeed.

Pops said...

It is science and not art. Although one of the bodies was positioned like he was throwing a football and another swinging a golf club. The longer I stayed the more creeped out I got. It is so amazing how they got all the parts of the body off, just leaving the nerves or circlatory system remaining. Very cool stuff. I think Matt would be a little weirded out but funny.

Haley said...

I would like to go someday. I think it would be cool. As long as it didn't reak of fermaldahide in there! Yuck. I definitely thing it would be a interesting thing to go to and I think you guys totally should. I think it is science and art. And I think that is weird that my dad didn't go but my guess is that he didn't go because he has already seen it! Haha. And I agree with Emily that Scout would maybe enjoy it, but I think she is too young to grasp the concept and probably get scared. A little too traumatic for a 3 year old.

Pops said...

No smell at all, Haley. I think the bodies are freeze dried or something. No liquids. Worth going just to see and learn how they did it.

Emily said...

It's some sort of process called Plasticine or something (I probably just butchered it-haha). If you click the word "site" in my post you can go to the site and find out more about it. I am surprised Scott didn't go with dad, I thought this would be right up his alley!

Matt Wright said...

I've always wanted to see this. Dad sent me a picture of it while I was in Ohio and it fascinated me. Does the weekend of November 14-15 work for you guys?? We kinda wanted to go down there that weekend for shopping and an E.R. show in provo.

Emily said...

Sounds great! Are you able to talk B into going to the museum?

Matt Wright said...

I don't know about B. I bet she probably will, and I can talk her into ANYTHING, but I don't want her to go if it will mess her up.
Cath: E.R. is Elizabethan Report.

Umm. After the whole TCSM last night, I think I am going to abstain from dead bodies for a while. My stomach is pretty weak from my fake pregnancy (I've got either sympathy symptoms for Haley, or my stupid birth control gives me every stupid sign), and so I can't stomach that much death in that short amount of time. However, I would be happy to sit around and watch Charlie and Lola and play mama little precious monster.

And no, you cannot talk me into anything DEAR :-P think of the first ER show.

P.S. my little word verification was sophy. Such a cute little name!

Emily said...

explain TCSM please. And I often felt worse on BC then I ever did pregnant with Scout. It took me like a year on it, for most symptoms to go away. Did you recently switch?
I never get words, I only get like xxynlphiij and I always mess them up.

Pops said...

I get words like youracreep or screwyou and I too, mess them up so I sign in at the top of the blog. TCSM is a mistery to me too.

Sue said...

What is TCSM? A movie? My word verification was waryal, like war ya'll!

B said...

Texas Chain Saw Massacre. The old, original one. Matt bought it for $23, so now we own the stupid piece of hud. I'm never watching anything worse than Charlie and Lola ever again.

Em, I have been on this BC for about 9 months, and it has been getting proressively worse lately. So much so that I took a PT the other day (turned out negative). It's wierd, we've decided that I'm having sympathy pangs for Haley.

Sue said...

I had a feeling it was a movie title. I can't believe I didn't figure out Texas Chainsaw Massacre! I love that movie! Leatherface and the grandpa! It's so awesome! Not to mention the girl running with those white bell bottoms. I liked the re-make they did a few years ago too.

Emily said...

I just checked the site and there are plenty of tickets available for both days at all times. 14th and 15th.

Matt Wright said...

Awesome movie. It makes you feel like you are there! We decided that the creepy father of the family looks like Neil Diamond!! He really does. I love/hate the part where the girl confides in him after being chased by leather-face, and all he does is put her in a bag and poke her with a stick and laugh. So sad.
I actually didn't like the re-make... sorry Sue. They just don't know how to make scary movies anymore. You're right B, I can't. That was just a lame cheap slam.

Matt Wright said...

youracreep and screwyou was shred funny Dad! HA HA HA!! Dad always signs in at the top right corner of the blog just to avoid the word verifications. He hates them!

Sue said...

I thought the youracreep and screwyou were pretty funny too!

I definitely like the original Texas Chainsaw the best. I guess instead of saying I liked the remake, I should have said I wasn't totally disappointed in it.

I forgot about the dad poking her with the stick. That movie is so sick and twisted! I love it!

Emily said...

The original TCSM is SO COOL! It totally blew me away with it's weirdness when I saw it for the first time. I haven't seen the remake.

B said...

It was wierd and creepy and awful. The part where the girl in shorts almost makes it out the door has been creeping the heck out of me. The part where the last girl wakes up to "dinner" with them, and they all laugh at her while she just keeps screaming... and the grandpa, AGGGGGGHHHHRHERHDFGDFG!!!!! YUCK!!!!! I cannot take it!!! I wish they didn't have that scene where Leatherface just sits down by the window licking his gums. Oh yuck. The ending was good. I almost wanted it to be a true story so that I could send her a hug and a rainbow. But I will not be able to make it through another horror flick for the rest of my life. That one was enough.

BTW Em, it has stopped sending me e-mail updates when people comment. Can you fix that?

Sue said...

I think it is based on a true story.

Emily said...

Ok B, I redid your email post thing, but it all looked up and up. So, I hope it works again. I still get mine, any one else have had them stop?

Sue said...

Mine is working just fine.

Pops said...

Mine never got started. What's BTW? Reading you guys chat about TCSM and other horror flicks, remind me why I hate them so much. Every one I have seen like (I know what you did last summer) . I sit there and think why is this girl or guy so STUPID. They just walk into a creepy old house or wherehouse where no one in their right mind would go at night and open doors etc. etc. Anyway, you all must know what I mean. It drives me crazy thinking about it in the movie.

Matt Wright said...

I must admit, I wasn't as disappointed as I thought I would be seeing the new TCSM, but it was a failure compared to the original. It bothers me that they even tried actually, you should just leave classics classic.
I am half way through a Documentary right now about the original, and it looks like it wasn't a true story, but they wanted people to think it was. Of coarse there were killers as you know like Ed Gein that wore the skin of his victims, but it looks like the whole story about the kids on the road trip didn't really happen. I will do some more research.

I did show Dad the original TCSM a few years ago, and I don't remember him saying anything critical about it. It definitely shocked him. Left him speechless if I remember right. I know what you did last summer was lame sauce. He went to that with me in the theater and neither of us liked it really.

BTW is "by the way"

It sucks for me big time if B will never watch another scary movie with me... I thought it would make her want to see more!

Sue said...

You're right Matt. After I left that comment I went onto snopes.com (a great website for any of you that don't know about it). Anyway, I read an interview with the screenwriter or whoever, and he said they loosely based Leatherface on Ed Gein, so they could get away with saying the movie was based on a true story.

B said...

HAHAHA!! Haley just pointed out that I would not be able to see thestrals. You all will now definitely be able to see thestrals. Long live the Harry Pot Pots!!!

Pops said...

What is thestrals?

Cat said...

I think thestrals is a Harry Potter term. I've never heard of it, but that's what I concluded from the rest of the comment.

Emily said...

Thestrals are horse like animals that can fly. They are black and skeletal and invisible unless you have watched someone die. B was making a joke that since we will have seen dead bodies, we will now be able to see thestrals. Which is a touch inaccurate, since I am pretty sure you have to actually see someone die, not just a dead person.

Sue said...

I had a great time at Body Worlds with you guys! I haven't stopped thinking about the exhibit. Cam has decided it sounds too interesting to miss, so he is going to brave the crowds and we are going to go! I think we will buy tickets for the very first time available on a Sat or Sun. That should cut down on the time standing in line!

I can't wait to go back and spend a little more time taking my notes and recording my observances. I mean who new earbones were so tiny!

Sue said...

It just hit me that observances is probably not a word. I meant observations.

Emily said...

That's cool. I bet Cam will like it. It was so cool! I am so glad we got to see it.

The ear bones ARE tiny!

Good idea about going early, that line blew.

Pops said...

As a SCUBA instructor I knew ear bones were tiny. From what little I have heard and I haven't had a chance to talk to Matt yet, the exhibit you guy saw was not the one I saw in Las Vegas. They only had about 6 bodys and you could tell they were all chinese people. Can't believe you would go again, Sue. Thought you would be all creeped out.
