Sunday's With Sue

Airplane! One of the funniest movies of all time. This has to be one of the first Wright Family Classic movies. Am I wrong? I remember laughing at this movie, and mom and dad quoting it when I was like 10 years old! There were over 200 quotes from this movie on the website I use, and it was very hard to pick ones that weren't obvious. One of my favorites from this movie is "We have clearence, Clarence. Roger, Roger. What's our vector, Victor?" That's funny stuff! And of course the classic "I guess I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue". So many funny lines. B, if you haven't seen this movie, you need to. It might explain a lot about your in-laws!

So, Amy got it first! Way to go Aimes! And guess who got it second? Our sweet, little, never-ending-in-labor Haley! Way to go Berries Pies! Both of them got it with the first quote! I love that quote, it's the jive-talking black guys. The best part is when the old lady, and Amy reminded me it was June Cleaver, that goes to the flight attendant and says "Excuse me, but I speak Jive". hahahahha!

Dan was next to get it, then Em, then Cat, and then Dad finally got it! I almost used the "quit calling me Shirley" quote just so Dad could get it! Em did guess Trading Places first, and Matt guessed Ghost Busters. Usually your wrong answers make some sense to me, but sorry Em and Matt, you'll have to justify those answers!

Here is this week's movie quote:

Do you have to play with everything?

Way to go Amy. I just forgot all about the jive talking dudes that came on the plane. There are a lot of funny lines in that film. Good job, Sue.

Congrats Amy and Haley! Way to get it from just the jive guys quote! I was totally clueless until Wednesday's hint.

Definitely a classic film!

This week's quote makes me think I've definitely seen the film it's from but I'm scrambling for sure to hone in on it.

As soon as Sue said that I had definitely seen this movie, I thought it had to be Airplane. I saw this a few times in high school when it came out. It was probably the most quoted movie during that time. I thought Sue did a great job finding a very obscure quote, since like she said, most quotes from this movie are very obvious.

Not a movie I have seen too much, but familiar (I was a little young for it's heyday). I don't have a real satisfying explanation for Trading Places except it sounded like maybe Dan Akroyd when he was in Jamaican gear in the train, just generic over the top jive talk which it did end up being, I just got it wrong.

Yeah, it took me a while but then I remembered the "I speak jive" part and I always thought that was really funny! I'm surprised that I got it 2nd. Woo hoo!

I hate giving wrong answers man! So embarrassing! It all sounded Bill Murry-ish for some reason. I thought the "what is it" hint quote sounded like something from that scene at the beginning of ghost busters when he is doing those psychic flash cards... I don't know. And the "big mama" thing reminded me of the end when they are making fun of that ugly/scary/naked ghost lady with the bubbles all over her skin. I didn't ever see the final quote. I might have got it with that one. But I wouldn't have won, so it didn't matter. LOL

Never seen it. I will put that on my list of things I have to do when I move to Utah.

Oh My I loved this movie too! Remember Kareem Abdul Jabar and him being dragged out in his basketball shorts? The sniffing glue cracked me up and I liked the guy describing the plane as a BIG TYLENOL:) Definitely a classic funny movie. Now I have to go and watch it again! Thanks:)

I just dribbled my morning milk down my shirt, and the "I've got a drinking problem" line from Airplane predictably came immediately to mind. I'm pretty sure, besides the "surely you don't mean...; don't call me Shirley" stuff, that drinking problem line is the one from the movie that's been the biggest player in my life.

"I've got a drinking problem" is one of the funniest lines in the movie. I almost used the one Jeanine mentioned the describing the airplane as a giant Tylenol.

I'm surprised at all the guesses I've gotten so far! Here is the Wednesday hint:

Bob's office? Bob's office is bigger than my office!

Hey Sue: How about a Friday clue for this one? I need it big time. Thanks!

Sorry Dan, I wasn't on the computer much yesterday. Here is another quote:

Person #1- This is important.....

Person #2- I am your best friend! What's more important than that? And I am three months older than you A%$H&%$!

I'm actually feeling confident in my guess this week!

Dan W said...

Thanks, Sue. Unfortunately, I'm still drawing complete, utter, total, absolute blanks. Congrats, Cat! Hope you win!

I, too am complete blanko. How about a Saturday night, Sunday morning and Sunday afternoon clue. I am the worst at this so don't mind me. Go, Cat!! I too hope you win....beat Elmo and Foos. I just did a posting with picture no less, and am sitting here at the MacPro listening to Neil Diamond on itunes, thinking about the December concert. Fun times! Well, got-to-go. I have to be at the airport at 5 AM. Love this job!

Alright, this is for you Dad, you too Dan.

Here is the Saturday night hint quote:

What's fun with playing with a robot that turns into a building?

Emily said...

If you guys don't get this with that clue- YOU'RE OUT OF THE FAMILY!!

Sue said...

hahahah Em, I was thinking the same thing!

Pops said...

I'm still in the family. Dense as I am, the last clue did it for me. Wright family classic is shirley is.

Whew.... I got it from this one, too. Glad to still qualify as worthy of my heritage.
