THE KINGS SPEECH....BLOODY AWESOME MOVIE

Wow! Mom and I saw this this afternoon. If I had seen this movie before the Oscars, I would have bet the farm that Colin Firth would have the Best Actor award and the movie the Best Picture. It is hands down one of the best movies, maybe ever! Top ten.

Don't let the R rating keep you away except for the principle if you choose. The blast of F bombs lasted maybe 10 seconds and it's funny and not offensive to the ear and soul. (in my opinion anyway) I am glad they are going to bleep out that scene and release a PG edition. The movie has a good message for young people, history people, disability people and all people and that will open it up for a larger audience.

See it! See it!

UNDER THE RADAR

I recommend this book to you that read. David Baldacci is just about my favorite author. He writes crime thrillers but I saw this small novel in the library and read it yesterday. Very nice and well done. Kinda "To Kill a Mockingbirdish" Set is the eary 40's. 13 year old girl, 7 year old boy, bad red-neck man, lots of humor, adversity and love and triumph. New York City family has car accident and the childern and comatose mother go to live with the 80 year old great, great grandmother in the hills of Virginia and it's the story of their experience and adventures on the farm. Nicely done and read it for an uplift of spirit if you haven't already done so.

UNDER THE RADAR "CONRACK"

I caught part of this old (1974) movie on cable the other night and remembered how good I thought it was and that many of you peeps might like it.  It is autobiographical of the early life of Pat Conroy one of my favorite authors.  For two years he teaches a class of black students on one of the outer islands of South Carolina in the 50s.  Pretty good stuff and I thought Jon Voight was teriffic.  Conroy wrote "The Lords of Discipline", "Beach Music" "The Prince of Tides" and of course "The Great Santini"  (Any one remember that Christmas morning?)  The Prince of Tides is one of my top ten books ever!  Not withstanding the hud sauce movie that got made with Barbra Streisand and Nick Nolte,  So bad and a waste of a great book.  So now that you are most over the Pot Pot, Twilight series and the underground Hobbits, and are looking for something to read, try Conroy and Tides...you will enjoy some really good storytelling.

the Visitor (again)

I had the kitchen TV on at 6:40 this morning while I was feeding Duncan and fixing my Pero and Peanut butter sandwitch. They announced the Oscar nominations on the TV and Richard Jenkins was nominated for best actor in the Visitor. I watched the movie last night by my self as mom was at the Phister doing the American Idol thing and doing something else. Anyway, I loved the movie. Do see it. Tarek and Zainab and the mother were just great as was mr. Jenkins. Read Sue's Posting about the movie and then go rent it.
Hard to believe "The Dark Knight" didn't get best picture nomination. Snobs and elitest creeps that vote are nuts, but they do get a few things wright as per Richard Jenkins.

The Bucket List

I saw the Bucket List the other night and liked it quite well. Better than I thought it would be and it had some good lessons on life and death and relations along with humor. The story line developed well and Nickelson and Freeman were as always, good. Not a bad little flick for a cold night in Wyoming. Here's to baby steps toward a better life......

Pops finished "Twilight"

Now that was a wierd story. Now what? Does Bella get bitten by that 100 year old high school Vampire? Boy, he would be a great football player for the H.S. team of Forks, WA. I can't get my head around kissing cold lips. Might as well go out with a turkey or a reptile. Do I understand right, that to kill a vampire you have to tear him up and burn him? Gross! Meyer is a good story teller. Very interesting reading and keeps you going as things get progressively more insane and wierd. Good though! I liked it. Im down for the next volume.
