Sunday's With Sue 12/13/9

A Christmas Story! One of the best Christmas movies ever! A total classic and one that you just can't help but watch when you see it's on. One of the cable channels always does a marathon of this movie a couple of days before Christmas. Sorry I didn't get to this last week, but I didn't get around to it, then I forgot, then Em reminded me and I forgot again. Sorry, I've been busy putting together a cookbook that my Bunko group is doing. And I'm sorry I had to miss the family festivities this weekend, especially the blessing! I had to work, I tried to get someone to cover my shift and I couldn't get anyone to do it. So, I'm really sorry. And Saturday night we had a Christmas party we had to go to.

Em guessed first! It's crazy how good you are at this Em! Dad guessed next, yay Dad! Then Jeanine, then Cat, then Amy.

Here is this week's movie quote:

All we kept was a 50 foot plot, the pigs, and the worm farm.

Waytogo, Ems. You are the best and the quickest. Matt was funny discribing Lola to me tonight. I hope to see her before she is full grown. Sue: What kind of cookbook would a Bunko group do. All the dishes would have to be diced and be three of a kind.

I did get this one fast. But you would be hard pressed to name a quote from this movie that I didn't get. It is TBS I believe that plays this movie and at the (Dale) Pugh household we have it on all day Christmas Eve and I see it several times. I still laugh though. The dad cracks me up to no end in this movie, you just have to watch him the whole time. Anyway, that was a gimmie for me.

I'll do Christmas carols this week in honor of this Christmas season (Emily style of course). My favorites.

Nice, again, Em! Congrats! One of those movies I've seen and know i should watch again and again but just haven't. It actually occurred to me about the third clue as possibly being the answer but I wasn't confident enough to send in a guess to Sue (and also knew it would be way too late if indeed that was the film).

The Christmas list you chose is fun (haven't heard a couple of those). The Tracy Chapman version of O Holy Night has long been one of my favorites.

Haley said...

Me too on Tracy Chapman's O Holy Night. That is my favorite Christmas song. Anyway, can't believe I didn't get this! I love this movie! Dang.

When Booker was between the ages of four and five, he got obsessed with this movie. He watched it year-round. I always thought it was kind of an odd choice for a kid that young.

Dan W said...

Was Booker asking for a BB gun, Cat?

Funny thing: last night at our bookclub meeting, the people have a nightlight that is a small version of the leg lamp from that movie. They are huge Christmas Story fans.

Cat said...

Ha ha! I want a nightlight like that! And no, it didn't make Booker want a BB gun.

Good job Em. Dang I thought I was fast. I love this movie! Great music choices too. I haven't heard Tracy's version but it is so cool! Have a great week everyone getting ready for xmas!

Dan W said...

Just looked online and there are quite a few Leg lamp light products. Who knew?!

Didn't want to start another thread, so sorry about putting this here. Anyway, here is the link to the original freakout of that kid who had the meltdown with the vacuum that some of us were talking about a while back. You have to keep watching this all the way to the end.

And here is to the next one (also before the vacuum). The little brother is evil, but this freakout kid is completely unstable...

Sorry, looks like the same one twice. Here is number two:

Is it just me, or does the girl in the Awkward Family Pictures called "can we go now", look just like me! I had to look at if for a few seconds and make sure it wasn't me!

Dan W said...

Totally, Sue! Hilarious!

(Your comment reminded me of about the only amusing part of SNL this week when in a spoof of the Tiger affairs the girl playing his mistress was asked about whether she was surprised about all his other women. They then showed a picture of several of them and she said something along the lines of "Well, at first I just thought they were pictures of me with different hair...")

Cat said...

Dan, that kid disturbs me greatly. I was seriously sick to my stomach by the time that clip was over. Jeez!!! Sue, that girl kind of does look like you! Something about the hair and when you were about that age. Crazy.

Emily said...

As a strange coincidence, Matt and Rob and I watched those very clips this weekend. The original freak out seems almost demonic.
We were quite amused by the "remote" also when he goes under the blanket and comes out in just his underpants. Oh man, that kid has SERIOUS problems. The microwave one was funny too and I watched the rest of them today Matt. The guitar one and when he is given a truck for his birthday. I hope that kid gets some counseling.

Haley said...

Wow. That kid has issues. The brother is hilarious though. Are these for real? That kid is insane. That's what video games will do if you get obsessed. Holy crap.

Haley said...

By the way, these are fake. Well, they acted them out. Pretty good. I heard an interview with their mom and she said they are just acting. Now I can sleep at night...

Dan W said...

No way on them being fake... Seriously? I'd love to read/hear that interview with the mom myself and see if I detect some kind of desire to cover up how out of control/disturbed this kid is. Hmmmm.

Dan W said...

I've just been exploring stuff about these videos and am still convinced they are real tantrums.

Can't say that I think the brother that captures these is an admirable person either.

Emily said...

I've spent a bit of time studying the videos and all the interviews this afternoon too, and I think they are real too. It that interview the mom did wasn't staged, then she is trying to protect Stephen (and herself) since it would look better for her too if they are staged. They staged one (apparently to make Stephen (and his parents?) happy to make it look like they are all fake, but his acting is so bad there is a very, very real difference). It is labeled "6" and Stephen has red knee socks on. I am on the fence at the moment if the truck birthday gift one is staged or not...

Amy said...

I'm totally changing the subject here, but Cat, mom and I need your new address. She needs to get Booker's present in the mail. Thanks!

Dan W said...

Digging Christmas by Blues Traveler, Em. Thanks for including that here. I'd never heard it before...

Cat said...

I sent a text to Mom last night, but I forgot to give her the zipcode. Here's the whole thing. I was going to call her later.
447 South 1660 East

Amy said...

Thanks Cat. I'll send the zip code to mom.

The truck one seemed fake when I watched it a long time ago. But I don't think the other ones even could be fake. Nobody could come up with the things he did and said. They seem like real whacked out frustrations to me. Sounds like a coverup from the mom. I would be embarrassed too. The kid is messed up, and it could very well be blamed on the parents.
Holy BIP Em! This music rules! I have always loved this Blues Traveler song. I have to hear it every Christmas. B and I listened to "A Very Special Christmas" last week. I love Santa Baby, Oi to the world, Sting's 3 ships, and really loving Smashing Pumpkin's song A LOT this year. Love Johnny Mathis! Come to think of it Em, I think all of my favorite Christmas song renditions come from your CD collection. Except MU330's Christmas album... that's a doozy. Thank you for making my Christmas extra awesome :)
OTIS REDDING!!
NEIL'S "YOU MAKE IT FEEL LIKE CHRISTMAS!!"

Cat said...

I know! I love Em's Christmas music too! I just let it play all morning on Monday.

Emily said...

I love that Smashing Pumpkins song-- I am going to add it right now and there are a few more Otis ones I could add...
Which Santa Baby do you like? Snoop Dogg (& co.) or Madonnas? I'm rather partial to both ("they can acknowledge my wisdom and understand that Santa Claus is a black man- word up!").
There were a few I really wanted to add but weren't available. Mainly Steve Wonder and Kimberly Brewer's I love you More and Powder's Christmas Don't Be Late (I LOVE that one so much).

Emily said...

No dice on the Pumpkins. The first time around I really wanted Bobby Vinton's Do You Hear What I Hear? and it wasn't there. Too bad, it's awesome. My Mob Hit's Christmas is so good, I love it. I also have a CD Rob bought me from Banana Republic when we were dating that I just love, but need to look for it in my cd box graveyard.

Emily said...

Ok- I souped it up with some Banana Republic selections which was remarkably easy to find -first box, second row--Christmas miracle?) Playlist.com didn't have Billie Holiday's I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm, but did have mine and Rob's all time favorite (the Squirrel Nut Zippers one).

Matt Wright said...

Winter Weather by the squirrels is a must listen as well. Good call. Yeah, the Coolio and gang one is the one I was referring too. Love it! hehe

Matt Wright said...

Random Emily memory continued:

She made me laugh really hard one day when she told me about the first time she ever heard Macy Gray. She said she was like: "is that some pubescent teenage boy or something??" HAHA!!!!
I know she likes Macy Gray, and I don't mind her at all either, but I found that hilarious and can still understand her confusion!

Emily said...

Haha! Not only listen, I think I was still confused upon seeing the "I Try" video. I had to study her to be sure- if I remember correctly, I don't think her boyfriend at the end helped too much either. But then I bought the cd, it's great. Also, one of about 3 cd's that Rob and I had in common when our cd collection merged. In a collection of about 500 cds, only 2 or 3 are the same (we had a few other similar artists, but not the same cds of them).

Wednesday and Friday hints please!

Thanks for the reminder Dan! Here is the Wednesday hint:

I love it here. You don't have to put on your coat to go to the bathroom.

And here is the Friday quote:

Honey, why don't you run and get the kid's things, and don't forget the rubber sheets and the gerbils. to go to the bathroom.

Dan W said...

Thanks! It didn't help me think of it, but thanks! Sounds like a movie I would like. It will be good to hear the answer Sunday.

Amy said...

I'm pretty clueless!

Emily said...

These quotes were familiar, but I never did get it and wonder if I ever will know the answer.

Also, I am sick of Christmas music!!
(even my own)

B said...

Well, I know I got it!! So I'm excited to see if I actually get to design a playlist!!!!!

Emily said...

I decided to take matters onto my own hands and get the Christmas music off of here. I figured I was entitled since it was my own playlist playing.
I channeled my "freak naughty mix" and added one or two others.
Glad to be back by the way, end of holidays and end of our Wyoming trip ---that was super fun by the way! But not too sad to go back to the ol' grind and also to take down my Xmas tree.

Emily said...

Haha! Check out Awkward Family Photos.
Mind of a married man, dog sitting on baby, pink floyd shirt..........it's all good stuff.
