Grandpa Chatterton

Mother got a call from MaryAnn yesterday. Don lost his balance walking in a parking lot in Medford, fell and smacked his head and broke his hip in two places. He is in a hospital in Medford awaiting an operation to pin and repair his hip. He, of course, is in a lot of pain and is medicated for that. I am sure we all wish him a speedy recovery and wish the best for MaryAnn.

Update on Grandpa: His surgery was on Friday evening. What the doctor thought would be a 6 hour surgery, turned out to be only 1 1/2 hours. He came through it very well. His hip was fractured in many peices which had to be wired together and a steel rod placed, too. He was in ICU for 1 day because of his age, but he was alert and doing pretty well. He was moved into his own room Saturday. Sunday, Mom talked to him. He had been working with a therapist, getting up and sitting in a chair. The only time he was in pain was when he got back in bed after being moved. He was on no pain medication. He is one tough guy with an amazing will to live.

So glad he is doing better. Hips are tough. I know! They have improved the surgery and technique since I started nursing a million years ago. LOL.Happy you got to see him and get the 5 generation pic before this happened. Keep us posted on his progress.

I talked to Grandpa last night. He had a little set-back because the therapist had him pull himself up on parallel bars and he might have torn or pulled his bicept. He was discouraged about that, but otherwise very positive about his healing process. He said, "I'm not just going to get better, I'm going to get well". He said they're keeping him busy and he has "so much to to". It was kind of funny. He sounded good, even though he's pretty upset this happened.

Gosh, Ben. What a difficult trip you must have had with the truck and the weather. Wierd we here in Fremont county had one of the biggest snow storms in early October in history. 15 inches in Lander and 11 inches at my airport in Riverton. Very wet and heavy snow. Good for the ground, but bad for you guys out traveling in it. I hope you made it to SLC and got the truck unloaded okay. Dan is the best for helping. Welcome to Utah and I hope things work out well for you. Can't wait to see and visit with you when I can get down there to see the Els, bean, Lola and all the peeps. Love, dad
