I've got to admit- I've been pretty curious about how the new birthday posts would be. This is above and beyond my expectations.

Haha! I love it--- thanks Sue! We are taking off in a minute or two....

I like how you added the extra exclamation point. The title only had 3, but the actual message had 4! I mean, you had to do SOMETHING to expound on the title.

Awesome post Sue! Happy Birthday Ems!

Haha. I thought this was a joke at first but then I remembered it is a new year and we aren't doing the "like" posts anymore. Anyone have a picture of Em to post? Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday Ems! You know you deserve a way more awesome post than this, but there is a lot of love included from all of us.
Have fun tonight.

Happy Birthday Zing!! Pretty impressive of me to remember don't you think? No WTB moment for me this year.

Great Post Sue-I really like the part where you watch the kids so we can go to dinner. Yeah, that was awesome.

If I remember right, instead of lists of things the birthday person likes, weren't we going to all write a memory about the birthday person--a story that in some way reminds us of her or his personality or character?

Em and Cat were awfully young when I lived with you guys but I definitely remember loving them like little sisters. But even then, like it has been renewed now on the blog, our relationship was based in large part on teasing and giving back as good as you got teased. I'm not sure if the girls remember sending me gifts of "bubbles" in their letters to me in the mission field? It would be a few lines of little-girl scratch along with a note about how they bubbled (farted) into the envelope before sending it off.

Loved it then and love our backs and forths over our pop culture tastes here on the blog, Em! You've got a great, quick mind and awesome sense of humor. And you're a freak of nature on these movie quotes. I'm still gunning for you, but you've knocked me down pretty good lately. Looking forward to talking about The Book Thief and other things with you over Thanksgiving!

Dang, I just realized I blew two chances to change words to "wright" (right and write). Please forgive me...

One memory I have of Emily is her taking us to Reams to get candy in that little blue Toyota truck with Mr. Grinch (her iguana) on her shoulder. I thought that was so cool, I was probably about 7 or 8 maybe younger. I believe we were listening to the song "500 Miles" by the Proclaimers.Haha.On our way back, it was dark and we were coming up a small hill in a neighborhood and all of a sudden a huge Rottweiler ran out in front of us and we hit it and killed it. We were all crying and Em tried to tell the owners, but they weren't home. We found out he was chasing a pizza boy across the street which apparently was uncharacteristic for this dog. It was a sad experience. Matt had been teasing me when we had left and Sarah and I were still crying when we got back to the house and when he saw me crying he said, "you are still crying!?" HAHA! No hard feelings Matt! :) Kind of a sad but funny memory.

Hey thanks you guys, too nice.

Zing- I'm glad you remembered this year too (yes, Rob totally forgot my birthday last year- ouch. It wasn't like he didn't have anything else on his mind though with his trial happening the next day. He was quickly forgiven.) Was that "what the bip?" If so, that's my favorite thing ever.

Dan- I remember those days too- we had so much fun having you live with us. I remember the bubbles in the mail and giggling with Cat about doing that. When you got home from your mission, you and Scott took Cat and I to Lagoon and you tried to sneak us on the big roller coasters by having us walk on your feet. It didn't work, but we appreciated the gesture all the same.

Will someone please pass this on to Haley (she's shunned)-
That had to have been two separate trips since the dog was hit in my mom's van and there was no Mr. Grinch when that happened.
Funny addition to that story: I went out on a date with that pizza boy a week or so later.

I added a pic of me since none of you seem to have any (or know how to pull them from from the internet).
This is a current fav of Rob's.

HAHA. Yes, I am known to blend stories together. I remember going to the store with Mr. Grinch in the blue truck though. Must have been a different time when we hit the dog. I have many memories in that van as well. The foremost being when me and Matt (or maybe Sarah) would sit in the way back and see who could last the longest putting their mouth open up to the AC vent! They blew a ton of air, good times! That's funny you went out on a date with that guy, never knew that. Yes, I am shunned.

Do you and Cat remember the "Bedtime Fairy"? When Mom was having a hard time getting you two little girls to sleep, I used to dress up in an old fairy costume, put on a wig, and cover a wooden spoon with foil and come into your bedroom. I would talk in a really high schrilly voice, kind of like Glinda's from the Wizard of Oz, telling you guys to go to bed. I might have told you stories, too. I remember Emily's big, round, brown eyes just looking at me. Neither of you dared speak, you would just nod your heads. I'm sorry if I freaked you out a little. Now that I think of it, it probably was a little creepy! Mom sure liked it because you didn't dare get out of bed after her visits!

That story is so funny Haley! I thought you were still crying from when I was teasing you! Oh man, how narcissistic of me. I remember that night as well. Didn't I go help you guys move the Dog off the street too?
It's fun to hear about life before I was around. Dan taking the girls to Lagoon and stuff. I have so many good memories with Emily I am just going to pick a random one:
Em was living in Orem after a long fun time living with us in Mapleton. She was hanging out with her friends Walker and Tucker a lot. I missed her a ton and somehow I ended up spending a lot of time at her apartment. We watched movies with her friends, went to Wendy's and she introduced me to sour cream and chive potato's (which I now order quite often- Thanks Em!) And I also remember walking outside her apartment for quite a while talking about all sorts of stuff. Mostly The Cure probably. haha! Anyway, it may not sound like the best thing to all of you guys, but I remember just loving being with Emily again and hanging out and laughing a lot. This is ultra cheese sauce, but you always seem to understand me Em. I always love talking to you.

Ok, I went to far. Sorry guys. I am going to go shoot some bunnies or something.

Dan W said...

Matt, that was cool. Before you run off to shoot those bunnies and get your manhood all revved up again, now and in your current soft-and-cuddly state to read the Twilight books! (For those wondering, I'm now just past halfway in New Moon.)

Great story, Mose! I'd never heard of the Bedtime Fairy and will of course now be expecting a Glinda the Good Witch imitation from you next week!

Emily said...

I totally remember the bedtime fairy- wasn't Sue your helper of some sort also? I remember clearly having no idea it was you guys and I also remember the voice. Wouldn't mind hearing it again...

Matt- That was nice, no cheese, just nice. We do have a bit of a unique brother/sister bond that happened at adulthood I didn't see coming. I also had a lot of fun when you'd come to hang out with me and Walker and Tucker (or as dad called them "Wallace and Grommet"), I believe in addition to Wendy's potatoes, we also introduced you to Unwritten Law that night.
I really had a lot of fun living back home there for a few months. We have a long list of memories from that time- memories I am so glad I have and think of quite a bit.

Uncle Tennous and Chicken Face.

Matt Wright said...

B doesn't have Twilight... Amy?

Oh yes, Uncle Tennous and Chicken Face are classics. I also remember when you lived at the Rieker house for a while with us before you moved to New York. While Rob was dating you. Those were pretty good times as well. I always liked when Rob came over. Remember when he talked about that homeless guy that held a string attached to a roller skate? haha! I think I filmed him telling it when I was doing the weirdo doc. Someday when I come across that footage I will have to let you guys see it.

Dan W said...

Uncle Tennous and Chicken Face!? More things we'll need to hear about soon! Can't wait...

Dan W said...

Oh, and someone get that boy the book! CHROLS, baby!

I thought my computer sound was broke when that Yorke, Hearing Damage came on. What's with that?

Emily said...

To answer Dan and dad- I added that Thom Yorke song because I thought it would be fitting since it's the song he wrote for the New Moon Soundtrack. Stephenie Meyer mentioned it when she was on Oprah I think it was last week? She said she really liked the scene when that song plays. So I thought I would familiarize everyone with it before we hit the movie.

Emily said...

Yeah, you guys can't tell me that between all the Phister girls there isn't a Twilight copy available for Matt--------- even if he only reads 16 pages of it.

Amy said...

Em you can unshun me...we decided not to go to the movie. Haha.

Amy said...

That was Haley who said that lost comment, I forgot to log out of my mom's account. Woops.

Emily said...

HOORAY!

Unshun.

Haha! Ok, I've been away from a computer for 2 WHOLE DAYS!! I have 75 things to reply to (viagra offers, free credit reports, etc...). Anyways, Em, I thought WTB was White Trash Boyfriend, but I like What The Bip better. For all of you, Matt now has a copy of Twilight from Amy. Dan, you ruined the word "bubbles" for me forever, which was one of my favorite words.

Em, I loved the time I got to spend at your house when Matt was gone to Pennsylvania and I was really lonely. Also, hehe, when Matt and I were dating, you and I didn't speak much yet, but I had your phone number and I thought I was sending a picture of me pretending to be Bob Dylan to a different Emily... And you just texted Matt and said "I think B sent me a picture of her..." We giggled a lot about that.

Emily said...

That was so funny B when you sent me that picture by mistake-- I knew you would be so embarrassed! Hee hee. I think you captioned the pic: This is what happens when I go to bed with wet hair.

Dan W said...

Sorry, B! May those round translucent things that shine light like a prism eventually come to once more dominate your mind when you hear or say that word. I'll be more careful.
