Sunday's With Sue 11/15/09

Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory! The classic, 1970's version with Gene Wilder. I think this is my favorite movie from my childhood. I remember being kind of scared of parts, like the Oompa Loompas and the weird boat ride and song Gene Wilder sings, but also just loving it because it is just a crazy, fun, magical movie. I also really liked the books, I think the Glass Elevator was my favorite. If you haven't read the books, I highly recommend doing so. I also really like the Johnny Depp version of the movie. The movies are different enough, that I think you can enjoy the new one without comparing it too much to the original. Johnny Depp is great as always, I love how he's always telling the one kid to stop mumbling. And Depp plays Willy Wonka in a great, kind of creepy way.

Emily guessed it first! Nice job Em! Dan guessed right second, then Ben, and that was it! This was harder for you guys than I thought it would be. Dan's first guess was Monty Python's Meaning of Life. I went back and read the quotes I did and they totally sound like they could be Monty Python.

Here is this week's movie quote:

Person #1- Did anybody order me a plain cheese?

Person #2- Yeah, we did but if you want any somebody's gonna have to barf it all up, cause it's gone.

Ahh man I should have got that one! I love that movie. I love both versions too.

Congrats, Em. Dang it! [ha ha]. When did you get it? My Monte Python guess was after the second clue because it just all sounded like such absurdist humor and so I thought I'd take a shot at it just in case. I got it right immediately after I read the third quote and am wondering if this is another 20 minutes too late close call or if you had it early on.

Anyway, congrats again....

Rest easy Dan, I had it with the first quote.

Muwahaha!

I forgot this in my list of fav's from my childhood. Definitely watched it lot. I am horrible at this game now! I knew it with the last quote, and the other ones were familiar but again... nothing.
Waytogo Em. You're back!

Dang, you're good--and cocky! Love the trash talk! As Matt says, "you're back"! Must have really been something to that "pregnancy brain" schtick you were running there during the summer slump. The rest of us have to step up or we'll all become RH fans (a fate I do not look forward to embracing).

Good job guys. I wasn't even close, even though I watched this a lot as a kid, too. My feelings are the same as Sue; kindof creepy at times, but still loved it. Just saw the new version a few months ago and liked it too.

Don't be afraid to embrace it Dan, RH is the coolest band on earth.

Maybe you're pregnant Matt.

As promised Jeanine- a little Hallaloo's from Buckley (I wasn't sure I'd be delivering on that promise so soon).
So as a fair warning, I added A Wolf At the Door which involves Thom saying the f word there near the beginning somewhere. I haven't included this song before (despite it being an all time fav) because of this reason, but decided since it was my birthday week, I am allowing myself this little indulgence. Note that I did the clean version of Creep instead of the original- so you know, brownie points?

Love the Jeff Buckley song! An all-time favorite! "The baffled king composing hallelujah.." What a lyric!

So clarify for me: Radiohead is music? (tee hee)

Here is your Wednesday quote:

How low can you get giving Kris Kringle a parking ticket on Christmas Eve? what's next? Rabies shots for the Easter Bunny?

I knew it sounded so familiar! I love this movie! Seen it so many times. Grandpa Joe and Charlie were so cute and I love the oompa loompas. I randomly sing their song. It just pops in my head! LOL! I didn't really like the new version very much even though I like Johnny a lot. I think I know this weeks but I am probably too late. Have a good one everyone!

By the way Dan- I was just checking the sws numbers and you are only behind me by 5 and I have been doing this for many weeks longer then you. I don't think I'm as impressive as you stated....

Yes you are Ems. You are mega impressive, but Dan is no slouch.

I got off to a fast start is all. After an early, lucky run, I've got to think the trend is toward a widening gap right now.

Fun stuff no matter how it goes! And I'm definitely not giving up! This week's has me stumped so far though, dang it (funny, just noticed my wv is "daings"). First clue sounded familiar but then the second is completely foreign to me.

The Thom Yorke song you must have just added is interesting, Em.
