WTB - Bandits!

I really love this movie. I just think it is so fun and it totally entertains me. I love the story, I love the acting, I LOVE the characters, I love the twist ending and I love who Kate ends up with when it's all said and done- which I think is something about the movie that many have a complaint with, but I say, "well played, sir." (and I love the alternate ending). I even think Bruce Willis is great and he is an actor that I'm either just barely lukewarm about or he gets a big "eh". Cate Blanchett plays a great "unbalanced woman (to a spectacular degree)", but I must say- Billy Bob's character with his hypochondria and OCD, is my favorite part. Remember that scene in the bar when he plays "Just the Two of Us" over and over and over and Kate is like "I love this song!" (thinking they have made a connection) and he is like- I didn't know what song it was, every time I see a jukebox, I have to push A1 over and over and over. Or something like that, it just cracks me up. ALSO, I don't know how it came up, but a few months ago Rob and I somehow were talking about U2 (or maybe we heard a clip of the song) but I mentioned that "Beautiful Day" is the only U2 song I think is pretty good and don't mind hearing now and then. Then I sat there for a minute and then said, "Hmmm, do you think that might be because it's in Bandits?" Before I even started the sentence, Rob was chuckling and nodding his head in agreement -he thought the exact same thing. Anyway-- this is my current "anytime/rainy day movie" by current I mean for the last few years. If you haven't seen this one, you gotta. I know it clunked with Sue, but it's worth a shot, maybe you'll like it as I do.

I really wanted to do the quote about Terry's Neil Young wig, but it isn't anywhere online, so I was going to pull my movie out and make the sacrifice of watching it to pull the quote out directly but I can't find my copy! I'm so sad. Something must be done about that soon.......

Well, peeps- Pops got it with the first quote! Way to go dad! Alex also got it right (after the Wednesday clue). I also (as I made mention earlier) got a guess from Matt and one from Dan and they both guessed "Saving Silverman" after the second clue. I can see how they came to that conclusion. Matt was totally positive he got it right, Dan was shaky about it. Dan later came up with the right guess after the Friday clue. *****Hold it: Just checked my phone and I got a text from Matt at 10:51 tonight that reads, "Bandits. Dang."*****

Chalk another one up for Pops!

Oh, and if you didn't get my joke clue by now, it came from this:

I have only seen Bandits once or possibly twice but totally loved it and agree that Cate Blanchett and Billy Bob were both amazing characters. I HAVE to see it again now. Thanks for the good reminder!

That video about the attempted rape--Holy smokes! Sad that the woman was attacked but her brother is such a character! Hard not to remember to be properly circumspect about the attack and not just laugh at the guy!

Oh and forgot: Congrats, George! Wow, you are on a roll!

Whoop, whoop! another winner! I somehow remembered that Kate was the name of Cate Blanchett's character in Bandits and I knew that Bandits was one of Emily's favorates. So I took a guess. I didn't remember the iceburg quote. Mom and I watched the movie last night. Mom had never seen it and she liked it a lot. I too love Billy bobs character. Love the scene in the Bar when he is trying dance with Kate and goes all spaz and is laying on the floor. haha great fun! Good choice, Ems.

Oh my gosh! where did you get the clip of the rape attempt and the brother. Is he for real? The worst (best) sterotype I have ever seen. A real actor could not do it better...

I knew I'd seen it, but I suck so bad at this game that I couldn't place it. Then Pops gave it away to me last night when he was looking for the movie to watch with Mom. So I could've beat Matt but it wouldn't have been honest... but this movie is AWESOME! Loved it. And love the brother in that news story. Holy crap. "They rapin' everybody down heeya."

That video is indeed real and it was the viral video of the week this week. Matt sent it to me midweek and we've been quoting it a bit and Rob and I have been enjoying it too. We had a moment of doubt on it's authenticity, but did a little digging and it's real. And yes, the fact that his sister was almost raped is totally overshadowed by her brother and his spur of the moment speech. Good stuff.

Oh and "do you smell feathers?" you are right dad, another great part of that bar scene.

Doesn't Billy Bob wake up from a deep sleep saying something about ducks?! That was my favorite part.
I wouldn't say I was "totally positive" I got it right. I sent you my guess and it just said. "Saving Silverman. Errrrr!!" and then on my comment on this blog I said, "I'm pretty sure I was one of the Wright guesses." I was a little uncertain. But yeah, the last quote was the give away. It really sounded like Saving Silverman to me"

Matt Wright said...

Man, my punctuation is awesome in that last comment. Probably nothing new though.

Matt Wright said...

Yeah, that video seems like it's straight from the Chappelle Show! But even he couldn't be that funny.

Emily said...

Matt's exact text to me: "Saving Freaking Silverman! Errr".
Sounds pretty positive to me. But that's neither here nor there.
And yes Matt, he sits up in bed from a deep sleep and says, "Beavers and Ducks!" Which I used to find so so funny because of it's randomness, but that got a little tainted when Rob told me that Beavers and Ducks are mascots of two popular Oregon sports teams (or something like that). Still funny though and very nearly a hint quote, was going to be my last one, but I forgot to post a later one.

Oh man, this is a movie I totally have to see again. If you had found the Neil Young quote I would have gotten it.

Ok... yeah, maybe at that very moment I was positive. Hehe. I definitely started second guessing myself very soon after that though. Why the bip am I still talking about this?
Oh, and I still very much keep my opinion that the new Phantom in the movie has a horrible Phantom voice. As made evident by the song on Dads new playlist.

I need to see this movie. I think I might have seen it once, but NONE of your quotes or comments are ringing a bell at all, so maybe I haven't seen it. About that clip, I can't believe the newscasters could keep a straight face following his little rant. So funny, (not the rape of course) but I agree, that really gets overshadowed here.

Emily said...

Yeah, if I remember correctly, that phantom was easy enough on the eyes, but had little singing talent. Weird choice. The phantom certainly doesn't need to be good looking, but does need to be able to belt it properly.

ps I'm listening to USMC mix something something.........WHAT THE BIP?

Emily said...

Amy- sounds like you didn't see it. So see it!

Pops said...

Emily...the bip is that I thought that you and Scout could exercise doing close order drill around your living room, game room and kitchen every morning. I have given you some cadence to march by.
All you need now are some wooden rifles.

Emily said...

We will get RIGHT on that.

I will have to see it. It sounds really funny! That news video is too much! Congrats on winning again Uncle George. Everyone have a great week!

Oh man that video is great!! Best laugh I've had in a while. Good stuff. Haven't seen Bandits. Yes the Beavers are Oregon State and the Ducks are U of Oregon. Haha.

I finally watched the video, that is hilarious! I don't think that clip would make it on a local Utah news station.

The "they're raping everybody around here" dude has inspired a whole load of responses and AutoTune versions. In case interested, here are links to just a few.
