WTB--School of Rock
Jack Black as a rocker shaking up a private school made for a fun flick that at least most of you knew and seemed to like. Sue was the only one who said she didn't think it was funny. My dilemma was finding quotes that weren't too easy, as this whole movie is dominated by Black and his craziness and unique personality and ways of talking. In the movie, loved the recurring theme of "the Man," along with the legend of the rent, the teacher down the hall who hears music coming from Black's classroom so obviously she is on crack, Joan Cusak (my Teri Garr stand-in this time) as the uptight principal who only goes nuts and acts like a real person when she listens to Stevie Nicks, and tons more. Anyway a movie that I crack up at and that Hope (my partner this week) and I have watched a half-dozen times together.
Our winner, the only one getting it from the first clue, was Alex. Haley was next, and the only one getting it from the Tuesday "kaboot it" line. Cat was our one and only correct guesser after the Wednesday "face melt" clue. Thursday's giveaways saw Pops, Emily, Sue, B, and Amy get it. Nice job all of you!
Have fun with this week's contest! Hope for the ability to tolerate another playlist from Alex!

Sorry, again, to be late in announcing winner, etc. Hope and I only got home from San Diego and Renee Kennedy's wedding last night. Had a great time and the whole wedding and reception went just great! Renee seems really happy, and her husband Joe loves her like crazy and seems like a wonderful guy. He has one more year at Ricks to do before transferring somewhere warmer to finish his undergraduate degree. They're planning on the same medical school path as Marcus and Haley.
Oh yeah, saw the old Wright house on Carvolos (sp?) while we cruised through Chula Vista on Saturday after visiting a windy and overcast Coronado beach. Now painted white and a lot more growth and landscaping on that little island between the road and the circular driveway, otherwise seemed very much the same! Grandpa's old Hilltop house is just the same color, but all the fences up now and the complete removal of almost all the old landscaping make it feel so different (the house kind of seems all lonely and a bit more decrepit sitting there without all of the greenery around it). Oh well. Fun to see some of the old stomping grounds for a couple of minutes...
Good comments, Dan, on the Carvalos Drive house and the house I grew up in on Hilltop and F street. Lots of memories from around there. I loved my Jeep and my 51 Chevy. I still laugh thinking about my brother Gary and him having both a 39 Mecury Convertable and a 40 Ford Convertable and him backing one of them into the other in the Driveway in back. My Dad got so mad at him. Lots of good times. I wish I had that '39 Mec now. Be worth a ton of bucks. 1939 was the first year Mecury came on the market. Amy ought to get me seated down with a tape recorder and tell stories about growing up in the house and my Jr High and High school years and all the stories I have about Mom and dad and Gary and Bev and the silly and wierd stuff we all would do. Do it before I can't remember, like I can't remember what I ate yesterday.
Dad, I have been thinking about that very thing a lot lately and even yesterday, found a file folder full of questions. We are all fascinated every time you open your mouth and tell yet another story we had never heard. I'm excited. Lets go! Well, after Christmas, K?
My kids love School of Rock and I've seen it once and liked it. Good choice, Dan. Congrats Alex!
You'r on, Amy. You have to get me in the wright mood. I don't know how I will do in a structured setting, but I'll try. Might have to get chummed up with one of your Mud bottomed pies. After Christmas sounds fine.
How about two cameras and a light kit set up to go with it?
Haha. JUST KIDDING. But I too have been thinking about that. How about instead of a tape recorder, we use my digital hard drive recorder and some good mics eh? Tape? Serious?? haha.
I have been wanting to do the same thing to Mom and Dad. Maybe if the material is good enough, we could do a full on documentary with the audio we get!!
I will come up with some questions too. If any other kids have questions, Facebook them!
Great idea Matt. Tapes are lame. The quality of Grandpa Chatterton's are so bad it makes me sad. You're on! Mud bottomed pie! I think I can handle that! (Muddy Gap, by the way)
Oh, and School Of Rock? I was just absent from the blog... I don't know why I didn't play. I could have got it easy from the second quote. Maybe from the first one even. I LOVE that movie! Good choice Dan.
