Where the Wild Things Are

Four Stars!!!! So Travis and Booker and I have been on a movie streak since we moved to P.G. You would too if on Sunday evenings you are the only ones in the entire theatre! Anyway, this movie is so, so good. I absolutely loved it. Don't go expecting a nice little children's movie though. It is quite dark and deals with some pretty serious issues. But it is amazing what the writers did to turn a 30 page children's book into a feature-length film. A little advise: don't go to imdb.com and read the entire synopsis. Whoever wrote that is...let's say challenged. But I fully recommend seeing this movie. I will now give a bonus HUD SAUCE review of 'Year One'. Stay away. Don't be tempted by Jack Black and Michael Cera into thinking this is worth watching. It's not. It is the most worthless movie I've ever attempted to see (twice). I ended up just turning it off (twice), it was that bad.

Wow, thanks for that review Cath. This is one of those, "it's gotta be really good, or really bad" ones. I have been fascinated by it though, and am looking forward to seeing it after reading your review. I respect your opinion a lot. I LOVED this book when I was a kid.

And I must give a shout out to the Arcade Fire song that is in the preview for this movie. That is a BIG PLUS for me. :) The song that's in it is the one that David Bowie heard, and liked it so much he sang it with them for a few performances. It's called "Wake Up". CHECK IT OUT ON AN MP3 PLAYER NEAR YOU!!!

Oh and Dan: That Crosby song "our house" is one that me and my friends voted "hardest to get out of your head" Good classic pick.

So I should cancel Year One from my Netflix queue, eh?

If you can believe it, I've never read Where the Wild Things Are though I've known the "wild rumpus" line forever it seems. I know more about it now that all the buzz has built on this and think I will see it. I'll give my thoughts here when I do. Thanks, Cat!

Glad you like Our House, Matt. I've always been intrigued by the phrasing of the two main verses and simply like it as a song that is purely "in the moment"--his simply dissolving into simple things that give him pleasure about his relationship and their house and "cozy room."

This movie is in Riverton now. Good reviews also in the paper and internet. Might just have to go.

One month to the day for "New Moon" Yea! Can't wait!!

I love this book. It totally reminds me of our librarian, Mrs. Carlson, at Ella B. Allen School in Bonita. She read this to us a few times and I thought of her everytime I read it to my kids (which was a lot). I'll have to see it.

I figured it would be really good- riding on the credit of being directed by Spike Jonze alone. He has a near flawless track record as far as I'm concerned. They sure nailed the look of the wild things too. Glad you liked it Cath, good to know.

LOVED it. B and I went and saw it Tuesday night. It was fun for us to talk about all the symbolism and everything after the movie was over. I bet you (Cath) especially liked and understood it being the Mom of a boy about the same age. It sure made me reflect on my life growing up.
Really cute story, awesome visuals, fun to watch, and Cath is right, it is full of things only adults would understand about growing up. Good movie. Glad it was made. And I'm glad it still had the style and feel of the old book.

Yeah, my little wild thing is nothing compared to Max though. I felt so bad for his mom the whole time. It was cute how it ended though. Glad you liked it!

I'm looking forward to seeing this. Probably will wait until it's on DVD. Loved this book when I was a kid.

When Booker stayed with me a couple of weeks ago we saw a trailer for this. I asked him if he was interested in seeing it and he said not really. Did he end up liking it too?

Travis and Booker were both pretty apathetic about it. I was the only one just totally rapt.
