Sunday's With Sue

Trading Places! I haven't seen this movie in years, but I remember it is very funny. Back when Eddie Murphy was funny. So, what was the last good movie Eddie Murphy did? Coming to America? I still think Dan Ackroyd is funny, he doesn't seem to do much lately. But I have heard that all the original actors are on board for a Ghostbusters 3 movie! That should be fun.

So, I think I had more wrong guesses with this movie than any other SWS movie. I'll start with the wrong guesses: Haley thought Bevery Hills Ninja, Jeanine thought Beverly Hills Cop, Matt thought Rush Hour, and Dan thought Stir Crazy. So, who was the first with a wright guess? It was Neaners! She guessed both Beverly Hills Cop and Trading Places in the same message. Dan got it second, then Dad! Way to go Neaners! I hope you sent Em a different playlist, because your nerdy Ipod winning playlist was voted off the blog! I was afraid the Spoons were going to kick some wright butt, but Dad got his answer in this morning. Way to represent Dad!

Here is this week's movie quote:

I'm Agent Johnson, this is Special Agent Johnson. No relation.

I have never seen this movie. There has been a long streak of movies I have never seen. Oh well.

Boy, every SINGLE quote was familiar to me, it was a frustrating week not coming up with this one. I love this movie! It's hilarious.
I think I am having a resurgence of pregnancy brain. I seemed to have had a brief break from it during my second trimester, but I think it's back. I never guessed this week because I kept thinking it would come to me epiphany style, but no such luck. I know it now. That would be fun to see a Ghostbusters reunion.

I knew what it was after the friday quote, but was like eh, someone else got it. (I'm all about the win obviously)

We should just have midnight train to georgia on here every week... Yum.

Don't know if it is wright classic, but it sure is one of mine. So many great funny clips. The bathtub jaccuzzie. Murphy scooting around on the board on wheels in his scam. Ackroyd in the santa costume filling his pockets at the company buffet. Just a lot of laughs. A little raunchy.

Emily said...

Jeanine-- I can't find a playlist from you in my inbox anywhere. Have you sent me one? Don't make me play your nerdy list....

Pops said...

Ems and Sue are a little tough on Neaners and her music. Lighten up, but don't play Conor O. for awhile. hahaha "almost as mean as me"

Pops said...

re: Eddie Murphy. In my opinion the last good thing he did was the donkey in Shrek and before that the best movie was Bowfinger in 1999. Kit Ramsey and his brother were pretty funny stuff. Bowfinger is an under-the-radar movie that all should see.

Haley said...

I love the background "pips" singing. It makes me laugh. UH NO UH-UH!

Matt Wright said...

I also thought he was way funny in Bowfinger. I was going to say the same thing Dad. And to my amazement, Haley also beat me to commenting on the Male background singers! Specifically the "Uh No Uh-Uh" That makes me laugh every time!

Emily said...

Jeanine understands our good-natured teasing-- I remember one message from her telling me that she needs to get me a better list, I just don't know where that list may be if she did get around to sending it to me.

Neaners said...

Emily, I just sent it again to your Facebook. I did send it before hoping just in case. Much better music. LOL. Thanks. Yeah!

Haley said...

Cool tunes Jeanine! I like em. That's so funny that you were going to comment on the background singers, and also the same line that I really liked and thought was funny. That's hilarious!

Pops said...

Good tunes, Jeanine. Congrats on your guess. Hey, Sue, I gave up on Netflix and rented "Gran Torino". Loved it! It had to be written for Clint Eastwood. No one could pulled off that role like Clint. Crusty ol' bugger, but he still has that look (squint, glare). A bit of raw talk, maybe more than a bit, but it went with the theme of the movie. And the raceist talk was just as you said, funny and fit the theme and character. Sweet ending.

Dan W said...

Some classic tunes, Jaybabe! For all your talk about loving 80s music, you went to the one and only true decade for good music with most of these! Proud of ya.... Congrats on the SWS win this week!

Sue said...

Glad you liked Gran Torino Dad! I knew you would. Clint was the best. The ending was so great.

I've got Booker here tonight. He is spending the night and we are going to Lagoon tomorrow! I'm so excited. I'll bring my camera and post pictures.

I'm on a big losing streak, too. Those lines didn't even sound familiar. I haven't seen this movie since I was about 15.

Emily said...

The fates (or Sue) don't seem to want to hear Radiohead on the blog these days. I have had major trouble since the new playlist contest. Boo.

Dan W said...

Em, it's not pregnancy but the long shadow of Chris Martin reaching out to zap all knowledge of movie lines from your brain. "You used to rule the world..." until you dissed his band. It's Viva La Vida karma...

Neaners said...

Yes I thought I would spare too many 80's hits although mostly my fave. These are truly the classics I love to listen to. I just recieved Gran Torino in the mail. I will definitely have to watch it. Sharon is coming to visit tomorrow night. I will tell her hi from everyone. She needs to get on this blog too.

Pops said...

Love to have Sharon wade in on this blog. Say Hi for me. Sue, tell us about Lagoon and Booker. Can't wait. I'm such a spazz...who is Chris Martin? That Cuban singer that was so popular 6 years ago? hahaha No kidding, who is he?

B said...

Hahaha!! Dad, your comment made me laugh so hard! You're thinking of Ricky Martin. I have no idea who Chris Martin is, but Ricky lived La Vida Loca.

Haley said...

Chris Martin is the lead singer of Coldplay. La Vida Loca and Viva la Vida, pretty close! And both Martin, weird. Haha Gramps you are so funny!

Pops said...

I knew that latino pretty boy was Ricky Martin. Just fishing for a laugh, but I really didn't who Chris Martin was. I like Steve Martin a lot. Thanks Haley and B for thinking I'm funny.

Amy said...

I think you're funny, too, Dad.

Emily said...

Haha Dan! Your comment made me laugh very hard.

And dad, there is do denying your wit. Cups, hee hee.

Dan W said...

George, your mention of Steve Martin reminded me about how his Let's Get Small album (cassette tape) was all the rage while I was living with you guys. Seems like all of us were laying, "Well, EXCUUUUUSSSSEEE ME" lines on each other left and right and playing out "wild and crazy guy" jokes, etc. Fun times...

Sue said...

I will give you a small update on yesterday's Lagoon day. IT WAS THE BEST DAY AT LAGOON EVER! Nobody was there. The longest line we stood in was no more than 10 minutes tops. We got to ride each ride several times. Example, Wild Mouse 12 times, Spider 8 times. Booker was an absolute joy as always. Two of Cam's sisters and two of his nephews, that are around Booker's age, came with us. We all had a great time and Booker became fast friends with the nephews. And Wicked is the best roller coaster ever! We rode that 5 or 6 times.

Pictures will be posted soon. Cam's sister, Kristin, is the photographer. You may remember her, she was the photographer at our wedding. She took some great action shots. She is going to email them to me soon.

Sue said...

Here is your Wednesday quote:

Now I know what a TV dinner feels like.

Emily said...

That is so great that no one was there! I wonder if it was the heat, economy, or the fact that it is a holiday tomorrow. Most likely a combo of all three. There is nothing better then that though. Glad you guys had fun.

Pops said...

Sue, Your trip to Lagoon sounds neat and it is the best ever when the lines are short and the crowds are small. Glad Booker had fun and made friends.

Dan: I found that dusty cassette, Let's get small of Steve Martin. Wiped it off and listened to it in the truck for a couple of days. Brought back great old memories. Supprised you remember it, but then again I always underestimate your mind. Fun times, wright!!

Emily said...

Rob and I watch Gran Torino yesterday. I loved it! I thought it was great. Rob really liked the concept, the story, the ending, and Eastwood, but found the rest of the actor's acting intolerable to the point of ruining it significantly for him.
The supporting cast really was quite bad especially the leader of the gang, the next door girl and boy were bad too, but so likable I didn't let it ruin it for me. Rob is not so tolerant about acting.

Emily said...

ps we also laughed at many of Clint's lines. The sandbags line was so funny.

Dan W said...

Wow on finding that cassette, George, and then still having a cassette player in your truck. Not many vehicles around with those any more!

I remember a ton of bits from that tape. My favorite is the one about his going to heaven only to be turned away for cussing (which of course has some cussing in it so I can't repeat any of it here), his happy feet stuff, his bit on geting pulled over by the cops when you're really small and then them having a balloon you crawl into to prove you're small, about throwing poop on the person's shoes you're breaking up with, along with the "blue spot" and excuuuse me stuff. Can't remember, is King Tut on that tape, too? I remember he does some banjo stuff but can't remember what other music might be on it...

Definitely a fun tape from a great time in my life! Wonder if I can download it on iTunes. I'm gonna go check!

Dan W said...

From Gran Torino, I never really got why the cousin was so intent on getting the neighbor kid into the gang.

Matt Wright said...

Dan, B kinda wondered that too. We talked about it a little. I think that is pretty common with gangs. The whole misery loves company thing is my guess. And to them, that's the only family and feeling of expectance they have, so the more the marryer I assume.

Pops said...

Expectance, nice word Matt. I don't do gang profiles and I wondered also why they wanted the boy in the gang. The bit part acting was pretty bad, but I thought it made the movie more human and beleveable and even cute. Mayor Eastwood is the man! I saw the last 20 minutes of "No country for Old Men" last night on cable. Tommy Lee Jones has that special old man charm that Clint has. Different, but good. Let's hear it for us old guys!!!!

Pops said...

Dan, yeah a fun tape. King Tut is not on it but he does Ramblin Man on the banjo. Can't believe you can remember so much of it. I have forgotten the bits after just listening to it a few weeks ago.

Cat said...

Hey Dad, what channel is playing No Country for Old Men? I want to see that so bad!

Cat said...

I hope there's a Friday hint coming soon...I'm struggling here.

Neaners said...

I just finished watching Gran Torino. I loved it. Clint was amazing. I do know what you mean about bad acting but it didn't bother me that much. The whole story of redemption and friendship was very good. I liked the barber shop scenes and Clint did have some funny lines. Great ending. It was definitely a thinking movie.

Did any of you see UP? I took Sharon to see it yesterday. I liked it a lot. The theme of the old man fulfilling his wife's dream was so sweet. It is cool that animation movies have such good stuff in them.

Here is your Friday quote on Saturday again.
