Sunday's With Sue

Sorry I didn't get this posted last night. I woke up Saturday morning with a wild hair, and decided to paint my kitchen. That project totally took over my weekend, I was up until almost 1am Sunday night putting on the second coat of primer. Yes, 2 whole days of work and I only have primer on. I forgot how much prep work it takes to paint. No wonder I haven't painted a room since I did the guest room last summer. And I had to work until 7 pm today, so I am now just getting to this.
Anyway, Die Hard! One of the best action movies ever. It is one of those movies I end up watching every time cable shows it. I love this movie. I totally dug the most recent one too. When he hits the helicopter with the car, that was awesome!
Anyway, not too many guesses this week! I know Matt and Dad are dying to know which one got it first. And the winner is......Dad! Way to go Dad! That's 3 wins in the last month or so. Sorry Matt, Dad's email came in at 8:53am and your text came in at 11:22. No one else had a wright guess. Dan thought it might be the Matrix. I'm not trying to pick hard movies!
Here is this week's movie quote:
Do you spend time with your family? Good. Because a man that doesn't spend time with his family, can never be a real man.

Die Hard is a great movie. I liked them all just didn't figure out quote. Congrats George:) I will miss my music but yours is pretty good too. Have a great week!

No wonder I didn't have the foggiest. I've never seen this movie. Sheesh dad! You've won the most since starting this little song contest thing-- guess all you needed was a little incentive.

Not me obviously, I blow.

Emily said...

MacArthur Park-- haha, George Costanza.

Sue said...

You've never seen Die Hard Em? That doesn't seem possible to me. It's a great movie, Bruce Willis is the best.

This is the best play list featured so far. I almost put Folsom Prison Blues on mine. I think it's on the playlist on my blog. And I love Sinatra. I have a couple of his CD's and listen to them quite often.

I don't get the Costanza reference Em. But I do know that MacArthur Park has the strangest lyric in the world. "I left the cake out in the rain and will never have the recipe again". What the heck is that about?

It's the one where Jerry gets a guy to clean his apartment and Kramer gets some old fashioned statue and George's parents used to have the exact one and George broke it a long time ago using it as a microphone while he sang McArthur Park. I believe he dropped it whilst singing the exact lyric you mentioned. Anyway, the housekeeper allegedly stole it, but Jerry doesn't care because he cleaned so well (even the dish soap cap). You know George though, he creates a huge scene and offends him.

Die Hard is just one of those weird movies that the whole world has seen but you.

Same here Em, never seen it.

Holy tank top.

Lame I keep coming in second... Good job Pops.
This version of "Bring Him Home" is total Hud Lick. It's got to be a high school marching band or something. The trumpets sound like dying kitties.

Dan W said...

Nice job, George! Kicking some "A" just like John McClane! None of the lines felt familiar to me, but now that I know what the movie is I think I recall the context for them. Definitely a fun flick.

Have to agree with Matt on that version of Bring Him Home! Wow, it's bad! Glad to have The Boxer, and McArthur Park is so bad it's good (though it would be nice to have something other than an instrumental version).

Haley said...

Wow that is bad Matt!! I vote that it be changed! Haha.

Haley said...

And Grandpa, you can win every week. I dig your music! That is my favorite Simon and Garfunkel song.

Emily said...

Alright looks like I have a little work to do on the playlist....
I really should preview them longer.

Emily said...

Well, I switched the two songs, but the only MacArthur Park song by the guy dad suggested was instrumental, so I am wondering if he intended it that way. I did a Richard Harris version which sounds like the version I am familiar with.
If dad meant the instrumental song, then I'll change it back to go with his wishes.

Never seen it either. Glad I'm not the only one. I've seen 20 minutes of the 4th one though, and it looked pretty awesome.

Die Hard is actually one of the few action movies I like. I'm a big Bruce Willis fan. "The Boxer" is on my playlist, too, but it's doubtful you will ever hear mine! I'm so bad, especially since the incentive thing.

Emily said...

Ditto on The Boxer-- love it. Random Emily Fun Fact: the crashes you hear during the lye lye lye's are metal chairs they banged together which was a last minute addition while recording.

Amy said...

I've heard that about the metal folding chairs, too. I always think of that when I hear it.

Neaners said...

Metal folding chairs. LOL. I like the other version with the woman. I also love Simon and Garfunkel.Great classic tunes. Where is Wed hint Sue? I am stumped.

Hey, Peeps, I'm Baaaack...Scott and I went to Utah to play golf with Billy Casper at Hobble Creek, but the King of Morrocco interceded and called him there, so we missed out playing with him. Instead we hung out at Unita Golf and bought some clubs. I didn't see the blog until we got back last night.
Thanks, Sue, for choosing Die Hard for the movie. I have only seen it about 50 times. I just have to see it or parts whenever I see it on the cable log. Like a crack addict only a action movie addict. Die hard and T-2 are the standard I compare all action/adventure movies to. What or who is better than Alan Rickman, Bruce Willis, the twinkie eating cop, the slimey exec. and all the action and bad guys. Skippy and I call each other "Hans" now and then just for effect. So the two FBI agents named Johnson was a slam dunk.
Thanks for the nice comments on the music playlist. I am glad you changed Macauthur Park, because most of you have a place in your heart for this song, however I wanted Matt to hear a big band with Maynard Fergurson on trumpet (he is the best in the high, high range) and I just picked M. Park as a tune we would like. Not a biggie at all and I'll maybe pick another Ferguson song if I ever win again. I always tear up a little when I hear "Bring Him Home" and the only version I have heard is live or the Les Miz. highlight album. I like what you have now, Ems. The Boxer is the best. I didn't know about the clashing folding chairs. Funny what can be done in studios.
How's the kitchen painting chore coming, Sue? Lot's of work but worth it in the end. Post a picture of the end product when you are finished.

Amy said...

Ya Sue, we would love to see the finished kitchen! I'm trying to get the nerve up to paint our guest room soon (yes, after almost 24 years, we have a guest room...can you believe it?)

Emily said...

Glad you got some clubs dad and hope you can reschedule your golf date, sounds like fun. Amy, it was my understanding that you've always had about 5 guest rooms. Haha. We just kick the kids to the couches.
Nice to have an actual one though. Sue what color did you paint?

Dan W said...

Funny one, Em! Totally true, though. And what a tribute to all the Phister kids how they handled guests in their rooms with such graciousness. "Hospitality" is one of the great virtues of the ancient world but all too rare today. Neat to have it thriving so wonderfully in 21st-century Riverton, Wyoming...

Sue said...

I always thought Amy's living room was the guest room. I am painting the kitchen two colors of yellow. A pretty mellow yellow on most of the walls and then a pretty bright yellow/golden color on just one wall. And I painted the oak trim white. Just the trim around the kitchen entrances and the base board. I left the cupboards alone. But what a pain in the but!I have spent more time taping than painting. I thought it was going to be done yesterday, but it's not. Tonight it will be done for sure.

Anyway, I owe you guys a couple of quotes! Between work and painting, I haven't even been on my computer for a couple of days! Here is the Wednesday quote:

"I believe in America. America has made my fortune"

And the Friday quote:

"Why don't you tell that nice girl you love her? "I love you with all-a my heart, if I don't see-a you again soon, I'm-a gonna die...""

Amy said...

The living and family room are the "overflow guest rooms". I'm not liking the reason we have a guest room now. It means we're losing kids. Sarah moves out in 3 weeks! Annie will have the basement to herself. Kelly switched bedrooms with the one Simonne had. So her old room now has 2 twin beds. It has been used so many times already this summer! Haley & Marcus will be in there till September. I'm glad it's being used. We like having people around!
Sue, your hints didn't help! I must not know this movie. Oh well!

Neaners said...

I am stumped too. Oh well. Nice about your painting. I never had the desire to do it myself so I paid someone to paint my kitchen cranberry. What room is your guest room Amy? Exciting about Sarah. She will love BYU. I am going to try to make it for a visit the end of Sept and see Elinor too:)

Amy said...

That would be a fun visit! The guest room is Kelly's old room. The first room on the right going down the hall.

Dan W said...

I'm 95 percent sure I have it, and it is a CLASSIC film. Really think hard about the first clue (I didn't get it until the later hints, but it totally fell into place then) and broaden your mind on the concept of "family"...

B said...

Actually, the living room is my room, and I just let you guys borrow it when you come over. That couch doubles as my bed almost as much as my real bed does! Talk about hospitality, you guys put up with us a lot!!

I'll miss listening to MacAuthur Park.
