WTB Movie Dr. Strangelove

WHAT THE BIP! Ha! I stumped you with one of the all time best satire movies ever made. Next time we get together we need to watch it together. Wright family time together learning how to love the Bomb. Peter Sellers plays three roles. George C. Scott is great. The doomsday project is a blast. Anyway....See it and learn from one of Stanley Kubrick's better movies.

I guess I am going again for next week. I will think about getting a little more modern, mainstream. But then?? We'll see! Tune in tomorrow. Happy birthday, Elinor and Happy Anniversary, Amy and Scott.

Wow, another week of Linda and Crystal?

Yep, heard of this movie but have never seen it. I've yet to like a Kubrick movie, but I may give this a try.

Happy to both Elinor and Scott and Amy. Silver anniversary, right? Wow! Time flies for sure...

Ahh with your last clues I knew it was this movie but couldn't think of the name of it! I haven't seen the whole thing but I did see part of it in one of my history classes when we talked about the cold war. I believe George C. Scott does a very funny rendition of Curtis "Bombs Away" Lamay. Right? Anyway, good job on stumping us Gramps!

Nevermind, I looked it up and it was "Strategic Air Command" that we watched with a character patterned after LeMay. But we did watch a part of this and I remember George C. Scott being very funny in it.

Ami has properly berated me for not having seen this.

I think Scott had to watch this for his film class at BYU and I think I joined him, but, of course it didn't help! Good job Dad.

I saw this movie, but it was like 15 years ago. The names in the quotes were the most familiar to me. Good job dad. I'm going to have to give this movie another watch. Seems like when people talk about Kubrick movies, a lot of times this is the favorite. I definitely liked it better than 2001: A Space Oddyssey, I just don't get all the love for that movie. I mean, I didn't hate it, but a lot of people consider it the greatest film of all time. I know you have to look at it in the context of when it came out etc.

Now Full Metal Jacket and The Shining, those are great movies. I love Full Metal Jacket, probably my favorite war movie ever.

Wow, I just went to IMDB to see all the movies Kubrick directed. I totally forgot he did A Clockwork Orange. I've seen that movie, and I get the cult following, but it's another movie I think people say they love more than they do because they think it is cool to love that movie. There are some unforgettable scenes in that movie.

Anyway, I noticed he directed Spartacus! I really like that movie. Kirk Douglas is great. I had no idea Kubrick did that movie.

Good comments, Sue. I agree about the kubrick movies. 2001 was just stupid, but had a great few bars of the soundtrack. I too love spartaus. Jean Simmons, Douglas, Tony Curtis and Woody Stobe (sp) neat story. I want to see Full metal jacket. I am not sure I have ever seen it and I have been reading some good things about it lately. If any of you peeps make it up here for Conference weekend or soon after, i will have Dr. Strangelove and we all ought to see it together... much laughter I would antisipate.

Full Metal Jacket is one of those movies that if you saw it, you wouldn't forget that you saw it. There are a couple of scenes that really stick with you. It is great, I think you'd like it. I'm pretty sure they are Marines.

Sue, I saw Full Metal Jacket when I was pretty young, and the scene at the end when the sniper turns out to be that young girl, and she's lying on the ground saying "Shooot meee" has haunted me ever since then. I saw it again a couple of years ago, and that was the only part that was familiar, I can't believe I forgot all about that guys suicide at the beginning! Yikes!

Those are the two scenes that I was talking about.

Oh yeah, SPOILER ALERT!!!!

I ordered Dr. Stranglove from amazon yesterday so that could see it again and have a copy for us to see together when ever that might happen. No fighting in the War Room. hahaha
