Fever Pitch

This was on tv a couple of weeks ago and I stayed up to watch it because I remember liking it so well. It's a really great movie, kids. It's Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore who are both really great in it. Barrymore is a career-driven journalist who meets Fallon, an elementary school teacher. They start dating and Barrymore and her friends start wondering how is this super cute and super funny guy is still single? Well, that gets answered. He's obsessed with the Red Sox. I mean crazy obsessed. It's hilarious. It has themes of sacrifice and compromise and the things we do in relationships for the sake of relationships. It is really funny. It's based on a Nick Hornby book, so you know the dialogue is really good. He's so great at writing dialogue. I'd recommend it highly to even romantic comedy haters.

Also... I just finished The Pale King by David Foster Wallace last night.

But I don't really want to talk about that. Anyone have a copy of The Passage I could borrow?

I also like Fever Pitch. Fallon is really funny in it. Drew Barrymore usually annoys the crap out of me but she is tolerable in this. :)

Interesting. This is exactly the kind of movie I avoid. But, I'll trust you Cat. I like Jimmy Fallon and Drew Barrymore is okay. Don't really like her, but don't really dislike her either.

I feel the exact way about Barrymore as you two. I can tolerate her, don't love, usually she'll do something that will annoy me. But in this, she didn't bug. At all. Weird.

Drew is awesome! Quirky and strange but with a cool, awkward vibe.

If I remember, in this movie she is some sort of math genius who runs a think tank rather than being a journalist. It's been a while, though, since I've seen it.

You're so Wright, Dan! She is a mathmetician, not a journalist. I shouldn't have waited 3 weeks to post that! I must have gotten her role mixed up with Never Been Kissed.

Drew Barrymore doesn't bug me at all. She bugs Rob probably more then all of you combined however. He really wishes she would talk out of her mouth straight. I haven't seen this movie and totally forgot about it, but I will add it to my queue now (or I will forget again). Speaking of Jimmy Fallon-- did any of you (especailly Cat and Sue) see his show last night? He had David Crosby and Grahm Nash (or was it Stills? Did one die?) on last night and Jimmy did a BRILLIANT imitation of Neil Young and they all sang a funny song and it was so awesome.

I did not see Jimmy Fallon last night. Lame. I'm sure it's on Youtube. He is good at impersonations. Did you see the men's cologne commercial parody he did when he was Charlie Sheen? That was hilarious, and he nailed it. The cologne was called Winning. hahaha.

Drew doesn't bug me or anything. She is just one of those people I really don't have an opinion about one way or the other. I really liked her directorial debut movie Whip It. That was a great movie.

I just looked on YouTube for Jimmy Fallon doing Neil Young impersonations. Holy Crap! It's uncanny! That is hilarious. Last night's doesn't seem to be posted yet. Holy crap, he even gets Neil's mouth down to a t.

Speaking of Neil, Fever Pitch also has some Neil Diamond in it. "Sweet Caroline" is traditionally sung at Red Sox games, so another reason to like the movie. In my opinion, Drew can be really good, or bug me some.

The Fallon doing Neil Young alongside Graham Nash and David Crosby is now up. Way, way fun! I'd never known the lyrics to Party in the USA before. Wish I didn't now, but this was fantastic still.

Stephen Stills is still alive and performing. Don't know why he wasn't there. Amazing group. Saw them in concert about ten years ago in support of their Looking Forward album, in which they were reunited with Neil. One of best concerts ever, and all were great, but Neil still stole the show. Amazing energy. Rocking out in his flannel shirts....

When that came on the other night, I was reading and am embarrassed to say that Jimmy fooled me for a split second. I heard Neil singing and looked up and there he was looking way way young........wait a second, that can't be Neil. It really is uncanny how good he is at impersonating him. Thanks for the link Dan and you can bet I was there at that concert! Neil totally shined. I loved how they really let him star the show for a while. He's the best. Love you Neil! Keep on rockin in the free world!

Just watched it. That was a Miley Cyrus song???? HA!! David Crosby, Grahm Nash and a convincing Neil Young impersonator just covered Miley...........somewhere 50 old hippies spontaneously combusted.

Google sucks at work right now. But now that I'm home, it's doing right by me. I've been wanting to say all day that yes, Dan. That was a great concert and Neil totally rocked and stole the show. And the Jimmy's performance with Graham and David was hilarious. The astonishing thing (besides the uncanny impersonation) was that what they're singing is an actual song! Holy crap! What inane drivel. Perfect song choice. When I was watching it at work, it caused my boss to come look at what I was watching. He came over and was like, Gee, I wonder what this could be (he knows about my Neil-love). I told him it was Jimmy Fallon. He was blown away. He watched the remainder of the clip with me and after a minute, he goes, 'well, who are those guys then'? He thought Graham and David were impersonators too! I've been laughing about that all day.

Cat. are you into "The Passage" yet? Come on, get with it and catch up.

Cat said...

I am, Dad. I'm about a quarter of the way through it. Still waiting for it to get good! The writing is so dry; I'm having a hard time getting into it.

Cat: you are just like me in that respect. I was struggleing until about the 1/4 mark. For me it got better after that and started making some sense.
