WTB—Dave!

Oh my heck, am I disappointed on several levels that more of you haven't seen this movie, or at least recognized it from the clues! It's awesome. In fact, it was number one on my Top 5 lazy/rainy/sick-day movies that Sue had quizzed us all about on the blog a while back. Also one of the ones listed as a favorite on my Facebook profile. Anyway, enough about me. If you haven't, you need to see this really enjoyable movie. Kevin Kline is so likeable in this, and it has some really great relationships, fun cameos by a ton of people, including real politicians (the clue about the donut was a line by Arnold Schwarzenegger, though before the time he was the Governator), and that's not to mention just the romp of a story it is in which a man who looks like the president steps in to play the role-and does it so much better than the original guy. Highly recommend, and it seems to me to have all the elements that Wright folk should love.

As far as the contest goes, I must tip my hat to Emily, for the girl plays hard! She ended up winning by sheer effort, piecing together clues for a movie she hasn't seen. After an early wrong guess, which actually was a good one given the two clues she based it off of, there were no guesses until the big giveaway one that names the character as well as adds a second clue to the idea that this had to do with the President of the United States. Congrats, Em! I do also feel redeemed a bit by Sue, who came in early this morning (seven hours after Em, though) with the right answer AND claimed that she'd been racking her brain and LOVED the movie Dave. Thanks, Sue, for that! Big relief that someone at least had seen and liked it like I do. No other guesses.

Anyway, ready for some Radiohead everyone? It's Em AGAIN....

Crap, crap, and crap. I love this movie and see it all the time. It just proves I suck at the clues and quotes game. "We're walking, we're walking" I should have gotten it with that. Taken the bullet for you quote also. I am just so out-of-it... Good job, Dan. I take back all the things I was thinking about your movie selection. You're da bomb!!

Wow, I have never even heard of this movie. I will have to see it sometime!

Yay, George! Another Wright who knows the movie and likes it! I really did think that "we're walking, we're walking" line would be a dead giveaway for someone who'd seen it. It's Bonnie Hunt as the White House tour guide, just way funny. Lorri and I are constantly finding ways to work that line into things we're doing. (As my hint stated, but here is more detail, my Claremont doctoral graduation was in that same building they filmed that scene in.)

Hope you'll see it, Haley!

I can't believe it took me so long to get this one! I really like this movie. I love Kevin Kline. I could even picture the "we're walking" scene in the White House, but I couldn't pin the movie. Lame.

I saw the movie once, too, and liked it but still don't recognize any of the quotes. Must not have been paying much attention. But, it is a good movie that I'll have to check out again. I think Bonnie Hunt is funny, too.

My W.V. is noalat. Know a lot? Must be for Dan and no me. Anyway, more about the movie DAVE. It is one of the few movies that I like S. Weaver in. The other was Ghostbusters. Well her part in Working Girl was well done and cast perfectally for her. And I loved the way Kevin Kline turned the tables on the Chief of Staff (I forget his name but good character actor) and all his supporters abandoned him during the telecast. Classic!

Frank Langella as the chief of staff. Agree he was excellent, and I also love the turning the tables scene. He is the character that delivers the first quote I gave about being lint, a flea, and a blip. Another one of his awesome lines I considered as one of the final clues is: "He's not a President. He's an ordinary person. I can kill an ordinary person!"

I like S. Weaver in the Alias flicks. Did you hate her in those, George? I can't think of much I don't like her in, come to think of it...

I've never given much thought to S. Weaver. She's fine. Good actress I think.

Second or third thoughts on S. Weaver. Now I think about it I don't know what it is that makes me think "Eh" when she is in a movie. I didn't like her character in Holes. She was good as Ripley in Aliens. She was really good in Dave...loved the singing of "Tomorrow" scene. I lump her and Susan Sorandan (sp) the same. She was good in "The Cliant" (sp) and Bull Durham, but mostly another EH.

Dan W said...

No worries on S Weaver as an "eh." Totally get that there are some people who are excellent talents but just aren't our cups of tea. She and Sarandon happen to be cool ones for me, but I'm not big on some talented people that many go gaga over. I've hardly ever "got," for instance, Cuba Gooding Jr. or Sharon Stone. Not hate in either case but not even close to wanting to see them in things just because they are in it...

I'm totally with you George on loving the Tomorrow scene in Dave!

I'm with you Dan on Sharon Stone, but Cuba Gooding Jr. I really like to watch. Jerry McGuire, As good as it gets, and the Navy diving picture with DeNero (forget the name, Honor something?) Those are three pretty good acting pics for Gooding Jr. His comidies are mostly lame. Fun to pick apart actors and movies. We used to talk about actors and whether they were good or not. H. Ford was one I remember. What about Ben Afflect? Matt Damon? others. I know this subject can get the juces flowing from Emily and Sue. Someone should get a top 10 list going on actors by decades like Sue is doing on movies. Who are really, really good and which are pretenders or "one hit wonders" Just a thought...

Dan W said...

I "like" Cuba Gooding Jr as a person, but I guess he never really comes close to disappearing in roles as I like to see from actors. I love Jerry McGuire and As Good As It Gets. Cuba scores big for me in the first one and only okay for me in the second one (though I love how he intimidates Jack--but I sense pretty much any black actor in that role could have done that).

Would love to really see some sparks fly if Em and Sue and Cat really got going on this subject! Maybe one plan could be to look at the lists of all the actors and actresses who have been nominated for an academy award in each of the past few decades and we can begin from there to do our dart throwing or laurel bestowing? There will be people missing from those lists that would be fun to talk about (such as Affleck and Damon and Ford), but we could do an "others" list too.

Who's in? If you want, I'm happy to start the threads....

Still hoping to get the actor/actress thread going, but I stumbled on this pretty dang funny Brendan Fraser gag. Makes me like him.
