WTB--The Truman Show

A fantastic movie this week. I'm surprised more of you didn't get it. If it's because you haven't seen it, see it! It is fun as well as extremely interesting and intelligent. I think most of you know the basic premise, Jim Carrey as someone raised completely in a fake world that is a television show but not knowing that. But the film still makes many creative moves within that premise that surprise, sometimes delight, sometimes upset you. Plus the cutaways off and on to the half a dozen or so people and families they show who represent its regular watchers are really funny.

The Truman Show is also, to me, one of the most theologically and philosophically rich movies ever. It poses and asks deep questions. Tons of angles that shed light on basic themes of the LDS plan of salvation. A fun reversal in the Lucifer figure in all of this being named Christof. It has great insights about trying to control reality and failing because reality will always break in with its own plans. It's about safety versus adventure, about whether one, as John Stuart Mill says, one would rather be "a pig satisfied or Socrates unsatisfied," etc. Rich stuff. I'll write about it more in a separate post I'm creating in my head.

Anyway, for the game. The son knows the movies his dad likes, I guess. Alex got it from the first clue. No more action until the early Friday clues when George/Pops came in. Then after the late Friday ones, Matt and Em got it right within a few minutes of each other. Em says she's never seen it but put the clues together well. Anyway, congrats Alex!

Wow I have seen this movie twice and didn't recognize the quotes at all! Weird. Good movie.

Now I recognize them a bit but couldn't put it together for some reason. Pregnancy brain must be lingering.
