Oh, WOW!, WOW and WOW..Breaking Dawn

I finished "Breaking Dawn" today and Mom and I saw "Twilight" the movie last night.  First, I loved the movie so much by seeing it a second time.  I just got more out of it and heard the dialog better and appreciated the acting and story much better.  Mom liked it also a lot and is starting to read again the book.  I am totally with the casting.  Even Jacob I like.  The Volvo I don't have any problem with and I never did have problems with the hair color of Victoria.  Bella and Edward are just the best....I really got into the last two books and B. Dawn just kinda blew me away.  Very creative writing and storytelling I must say.  The solution to the love triangle was brillant and novel.  Imprinting!!!  Jacob will be so awesome in the next movies as a wolf as I am sure they will do a good job in the special effects area.  Anyway, I am sorry the saga ends and I have read all the books.  I hate to go back to reading Mickey Spillane novels.  I wish I knew how to import pictures to the blog.  Maybe the Foos will show me again how to do it and find a source.  I haven't heard much from them except that they are having fun and that is the objective.  Hiss to Aro!

Haha! Glad you liked the series so much. Kind of makes me giggle a little. You don't have to go back to Spillane just yet, read The Host.

OR you could always become a Harry Pot Pot.....

I finished Breaking Dawn a few days ago and I loved it too! That whole Jacob imprinting with Nessie was crazy! I enjoyed the ending very much. And I really hope they are planning on making a movie out of the 4th one, because I want to see all those crazy vampires together!
I want to see Twilight again. Em and Cat, we need to decide when to go.

Is the "Host" any good? And Sue, I'll pass on the Harry Pot Pot books. Sorry Em's and Haley.

Anytime, Sue. Dad, I hated Host really bad. I thought it was just repugnant. But everyone else seemed to like it. I even think I heard B say she liked it better than either one or all of the Twilight books. Shudder. It may have just been a bad time for me. I had just set aside my all time favorite novel to read Host, then the author of said favorite novel killed him self at that time. It just seemed so insubstantial and a waste of time.

I'll say dad- that I, Haley, and B totally LOVED The Host, and Cath didn't like it. That's all I know who read it. So you have 3 out of 4 glowing recommendations. And you can pass on the Harry Pot Pots, your loss.

Sue
I REALLY want to see the movie again. It will be semi tricky working out a time without Scout. It depends on how busy Rob is. I can try to pawn her off at Ems for a few hours so she can play with Bruce (Em would probably rather go though, hee hee). We'll see. I have a busy weekend this week though...

Em, you figure out when would be best for you to see it again and just let me know.

I noticed on your myspace you're laughing at texts from Matt. Please share.

Thanks, nerdlings, on your comments and thoughts on Host. I'll decide what to do and let you know.

Breaking Dawn will indeed be an interesting (and challenging) movie to make. Ditto on seeing all the vampires, especially The Amazons. Too cool.

Will probably contain more puke scenes then I am comfortable with though.....

I started to read Breaking Dawn at the beginning of out road trip and I am almost done with it now (2nd time) and I am loving it! I don't know why people hated it so much, I like it. I am really glad that Grandpa enjoyed they so much. I really like The Host, I thought it was interesting and I think Grandpa would like it. My mom also liked it so there is another recommendation.

I decided to read it again too and just finished it this morning. I have to say, I liked it a lot better. I am getting over my intense dislike for the name Renesme. I think I am just getting used to it (still hate it though). I also was able to enjoy the first part a lot more, knowing the outcome. I was very upset with Bella the first time I read the book. I relaxed this time, knowing she was right.
I read some of the negative reviews on Amazon about the book and many seem to focus around feminism. The ones that didn't, seemed to have missed the boat entirely saying things like: Bella getting everything she wants without deserving it (?), characters changed too much (ah duh- lots of things changed here, I would expect the characters to change too, Bella in particular), one girl even said she didn't like it because the plot points were too unexpected (how dare you surprise us Stephenie!), many were offended that Bella wanted to have Renesme so much, even though she didn't want kids until she was pregnant and then what do you know she does (I found that to be a very believable emotion, having felt a change in me after becoming pregnant with Scout), and the end Volteri scene fizzed out without a battle therefore- didn't get resolved (I think these are mostly Harry Potter fans -Rowling didn't have a problem shedding blood and death- but this is a different series and I thought the scene was intense enough without a huge physical battle and death of beloved characters) it goes on but they are too stupid to dwell on. About feminism, yes Bella kind be kind of a weak female role sometimes, I admit that. BUT I thought BD turned that around some. I don't know what book other people were reading, but I think Bella developed into a strong female. I thought it was pretty clear that Bella changed into a vampire (and wanted to so bad all along) because she was essentially born to be one. Everything about her steered towards the fact that she was always meant to be one and I personally think that is a large factor of Edwards appeal towards her from the beginning, and her immense love for him. So basically, I think she was following the natural course her life was meant to go.
Also did all these people miss the fact that Bella ended up saving everyone? As the cover depicts - she turned from a weak pawn into the queen, or in other words, the most powerful piece on the chess board.

Sorry, bored today....

That is an interesting take on the cover art. My mom and I discussed it once and I think we came to the conclusion that we also thought that Bella was depicted as the white queen, also the white depicting that she is now immortal. But we think the red pawn in the back is Renesmee and is red because she is still human and Bella is in a protective stance in front of her. Does that seem like a logical interpretation?

As cited on Stepheniemeyer.com FAQ section of Breaking Dawn (Glavin):
What does the cover mean?

Breaking Dawn's cover is a metaphor for Bella's progression throughout the entire saga. She began as the weakest (at least physically, when compared to vampires and werewolves) player on the board: the pawn. She ended as the strongest: the queen. In the end, it's Bella that brings about the win for the Cullens.

It is fun to come up with different interpretations and I think a few scenarios make sense, such as the one you and Amy came up with, but this is the interpretation straight from Stephenie.

I too hated the name Renesme. I still don't know how to pronounce it when I read it in my mind and it seems just stupid. Small critizism for a good book. Speaking of covers, what is the meaning of the art on the first book of the arms and hands holding an apple out?

Emily said...

I don't think it has a proper pronunciation, it doesn't deserve one.
I know this too! Stephenie thought it was a good depiction of a choice (kind of Adam and Eve reminiscent). Here, I will just find it and cut and paste:
The apple on the cover of Twilight represents "forbidden fruit." I used the scripture from Genesis (located just after the table of contents) because I loved the phrase "the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil." Isn't this exactly what Bella ends up with? A working knowledge of what good is, and what evil is. The nice thing about the apple is it has so many symbolic roots. You've got the apple in Snow White, one bite and you're frozen forever in a state of not-quite-death... Then you have Paris and the golden apple in Greek mythology—look how much trouble that started. Apples are quite the versatile fruit. In the end, I love the beautiful simplicity of the picture. To me it says: choice.
Incidentally, she had nothing to do with the cover of New Moon, and Eclipse was showing Bella making a choice and it kind of ripping her apart (I think).

Haley said...

Yes. New Moon cover is pretty lame becuase she had no choice. Did you notice in the lunch scene in the movie that when she drops her apple he catches it and holds it out to her in that exact way. Pretty awesome!

Pops said...

Emily, you are the SOURCE. I remember the apple scene at lunch. Pretty cool symbolism. I have been at a disadvantage as the books I have read come from the Phister house and all the covers are off.
