Wow B. You and I have pretty much the opposite taste in movies! 2 of the movies on your list I haven't seen. Here is my top 5 favorite makeover scenes in movies. I added only one shopping scene, because generally, I don't like those scenes. So here is my list:

5-Michelle Pfeifer/Catwoman in Batman Returns

4-Rebecca Romjin/Mystique in the X-Men series. She has several makeovers in every movie

3-Toby McGuire/Peter Parker in Spiderman.

2-Scott Schwartz/Eric Bates in The Toy. This is my shopping scene one. I love the scene where he is at the toy store and can buy anything he wants and he wants to buy Richard Pryor.

1-Helena Bonham Carter/Elizabeth in Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. Creepy bride!

Okay, I'll give it a go.
1. Tom Hanks in Cast-a-way on the
Island. (beard and losing
weight.

2. Dean Martin in Rio Bravo.

3. Kevin Kline in Silverado.
(Longjohns to cowboy.)

4. Tom Hanks as the runner in
Forest Gump.

5. Best of all....Lee Marvin in
Cat Ballou. Classic! drunk to Gun fighter all dressed up.

Some of these are a little lame, but no one can come up with a better makeover than Lee Marvin. Challange!!!!

Sue, you should watch Son in Law. It has Pauly Shore in it, who is one of my favorite people. Matt doesn't think it's quite as funny as Encino Man, but it's still hilarious. My favorite part is "Steven Tyler PJs!". Have you ever seen it? Maybe I should ask that first... small town country girl goes to college, and comes back with Pauly as her best friend, and totally 80s clothes. It blows every other makeover away. And I am substituting Catwomans transformation for the Drew Barrymore one, I watched that like 2 days ago and didn't think of it!!

Son-in-law is one of the 3 movies I saw on your list. I think it's a pretty funny movie. I have to say though, the girl in it bugged me. Ever After and Clueless are the 2 I haven't seen.

Catwoman rocks!

Em's picks

1. Grease--Danny and Sandy both getting makeovers at the end. (Danny soon drops his to stay bad boy with Sandy).
2.Roman Holiday-- Audry Hepburn cutting off her princess hair and being able to have an average day relaxing on the streets of Rome.
3.Cat Woman-- Good call. "I don't know about you Miss Kitty, but I am feeling so much yummier".
4.Clueless-- Good call again. Plus, a chubby Brittany Murphy is a welcome sight.
5. Pretty Woman-- It's been said.

Honorary mention: It's more "shopping" then "makeover" but that was in B's original line, so I have to mention the shopping scene in Big at FAO Shwartz.

Sue, Clueless is actually really great. It is HILARIOUS and much better then your average teen movie. Plus it was based on "Emma" so it is fun to watch the parallels. It is one of the best films that captured it's particular era (high school in the mid nineties.) Even if it is set in Beverly Hills, I still could relate to some.

Dad=
The only movies I had heard of were the two Tom Hanks ones. What's Cat Ballou?

Cat's top five makeover scenes:
1. Brendan Frasier - Encino Man
2. Johnny Depp - Edward Scissor Hands. Both gives and receives makeovers.
3. Cher - Moonstruck
4. Julia Roberts - Pretty Woman
5. Jack Nicholson - Batman

B, I HATE the Son in Law one. It seems to ingratiating and fake.

Sue said...

Cat-good call on Cher! I totally forgot about that one. I was going to list Jack Nicholson, but didn't want 2 batman ones. And I totally agree with you on the son-in-law one. I haven't seen the movie in years, but I seem to remember it bugged me that the makeover happened so fast! Like she met this cooky guy and 5 minutes later she is a completely different person.

Emily said...

Agreed about the son in law one, too fast, made her more poser then anything. Sorry to gang up B. I did however love the steven tyler pajamas thing that was so funny. Pauly shore totally cracks me up. I can't believe I didn't think of Brendan Fraiser in Encino Man. THAT'S IT!! I am putting that movie on my queue right now. Good call on Cher too, I would have added that too had I thought it.

Sue said...

I don't remember the Steven Tyler pajamas thing. Will someone please remind me? And I seem to remember I really like the actor who played her dad in the movie. Was it the same guy who played the dad on Wonder Years?

Im just so confused!

Why so confused Haley?

It's ok. You are all allowed to like Neil Young, and I am allowed to like the makeover in Son in Law. To me, it was a country girl who was finally out on her own, and experiencing something other than the her family ranch. I really relate. I do think it was fast, but I always thought that it was a longer span of time than the movie portrayed. I thought of it as at least a semester before she changed that dramatically.

I would also like to add Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady. Another movie where the costumes are fantastic. And Danny and Sandy. And someday, I am going to have an Audrey Hepburn marathon with myself, because I think I've only seen My Fair Lady. I've always wanted to watch Breakfast at Tiffanys!!

Pops said...

Good call you guys on Brendan Frasier in Encino Man and better..Johnny Depp in Ed. Sissorhands. I don't agree on Audry Hepburn in My Fair Lady, because she never got really grubby looking at the start as a flower girl. (Reasonable right! how could Hepburn ever look grubby?) I'm sorry that I will make reference to older movies...because I am older. However there are some "must see" that I will recommend from time to time. Cat Balou being one. Just the scene of Kid Shaleen (Lee Marvin) falling out of the back of the stagecoach is worth the price and time of the movie, plus drunk on the horse, plus getting sober, having a bath and dressing in his gunfighter outfit...classic with a capital C.

Sue said...

Dad, keep recommending the older movies. I have a goal that I need to see all the classic movies. You always have good recommendations, you and I tend to like the same stuff, well, for the most part anyway.

And B, I am sorry if it we ganged up on you on the Son in Law thing. I can see how her particular transformation would appeal to you. And you could be right, it could have been over a longer period of time than I remember. I saw that movie in the theater, so it's been awhile. And we will allow you to like that scene since you allow us to like Neil.

B, Breakfast At Tiffanys is good, but Roman Holiday is a lot better. Breakfast At Tiffanys just has more hype around it. You should see both. OH and Sabrina. That one is actually my favorite and I can kind of see that one as being your favorite too.
Little mousey girl in love with rich man, goes to Paris and transforms and comes back and he doesn't recognize her and hits on her, but she finds favor in his older bachelor brother instead. Was remade a while ago, but nowhere near as good, even though Harrison Ford and Greg Kinnear are in it.
Plus I have issues with Julia Ormond.

B said...

I LOVE Sabrina!!!!! I may have to just revise my entire list now. Ok, Breakfast at Tiffanys is getting Netflixed to us soon, so that'll be great, and I am ordering Roman Holiday for right after that. Sorry I can't comment much. There is only time for homework, all other thought must cease.

Pops said...

Roman Holiday is the best! ever! So romantic without any sex. Neat story and setting. Love the scene when he (Greg Peck) sticks his hand in the stone face's mouth..classic!
