Ohhh Baby......

Well, it looks like we might be having a baby today! Haley started contracting at about midnight, called me at 2:15. They were about 10 min. apart. She slept a little and at 5:00 they were about 4 minutes apart so they went to the hospital. They said she is in labor but not progressing very quickly. She is about 1 cm. They sent them on a walk and told them to come back in an hour. It looks like this is it and I'm sad to say she may be taking after me in the long labor business :(
I'm trying to rearrange my life today and preparing to head to Idaho sometime today. I'll try to keep you posted, but it might not be easy. I might just have to text some of you or assign someone to keep the blog posted. Yesterday was about 70 degrees and today it's snowing like crazy!! I hope I can make it to Idaho. I hope I'm making sense...I'm kindof spazzing out.

Go Haley Go! Prayers flying north from Tooele for a safe delivery and healthy baby--and for mom to make it safely there.

Pops said...

Yeah! Haley. Keep pushing. Becarefull Amy, driving to Ideeho. Togo pass and Jackson pass will be icy and maybe closed. Sorry you will miss the trip to Navauoo.

Amy said...

Ya, I'll miss my trip, but that's OK. This is exciting.
Update: She has been sent home to wait it out for awhile. Trying to get some rest. It will probably be a long day. I'll be careful. Scott and I are caravanning. Then he'll go to SLC tomorrow night to catch his plane to DC.

B said...

I can be put in charge of keeping the bloggers updated. I was actually going to post this for you, I know you're spazzing a little. Matt can come watch Kyle or whatever you need!!

I feel so old. I should learn how to knit little booties now or something.

Amy said...

Thanks, B. I'll let you know what we need. Randi just offered to pick Kyle up from school every day, so that will be nice.

I hope Vesta, Orlean and Lelah are ready for this, too!
Dan, when Haley announced her pregnancy, Sue made a funny comment about being great aunts and maybe we should call them our great aunt names. They were feeling pretty old!
p.s. no news yet from Haley since the last time.

Sue said...

Good luck to Haley! And Amy, or should I say Grandma? I hope you and Grandpa Scott get there safe. It's snowing like crazy here too! I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt a couple of days ago!

And I believe Cat was the first to use the great aunt names. I think she called me Vesta then I called her Orlean, and we decided Em was Lelah.

Amy said...

Oh, OK, that's right. Anyway, we all sound old now. We're so excited to see little Allison!

Cat said...

How exciting. I hope all goes well. Be safe Amy and Scott.

Emily said...

How exciting! Tell Haley to hang in there and we are all excited to hear the good news. By the way, who forgot to give Allison the memo that babies in this family are overdue, not early?
Allison best speak to Creepy Baby George and tell him it's ok to come early by a week or two.

Cat said...

Creepy Baby George...?

Haley said...

Thanks everybody! I am at home still, I am having contractions still but not progressing. They are getting gradually more painful so that is a good sign. I was checked last at about 9:15 this morning so maybe there is some progress. We are going to go in at about 6:30 this evening and see what's going on. Everyone cross you fingers that there is some progress! I think it is funny that I am going early, never thought that would happen. I am not complaining though!! I am still taking after my mom in the slow department. Oh well. We will try to keep you guys updated!

Sue said...

Hang in there Haley! We are all pulling for you!

And Cat, Creepy Baby George is the fetus thing Em has on her blog.

B said...

UPDATE!!: They sent her home again, poor girl. Amy and Scott got there safe. She's still having contractions, but made no progress, so they gave her a sleeping pill and hopefully tomorrow will be better. Looks like she inherited Amy's long labors. No progress is LAME!!

Emily said...

Oh that sucks!!!!! Total Amy flashbacks though. Sorry Haley. Glad Amy and Scott are safe, I still am having trouble wrapping my brain around Ami and Scott being grandparents....

Sue said...

Poor little Haley! She must be exhausted! Physically and emotionally. I'm glad Amy and Scott got there okay, I just hope Scott is there for the birth of his granddaughter before he has to go to DC!

And Em, do you realize you spelled Amy's name wrong?!? You are hilarious when you're pregnant!

B said...

Haha, silly Em brain. I can't wait for Baby Pugh to be here, AAAAGGGHHH!!! On a nerdier note, Chris just beat me on my turn at Settlers, and I am sad. I was behind the whole game and no one saw it coming at all.

Oh, my word verification was tedde, like a teddy bear. Babies are on the universe's brain!

Emily said...

Hee hee- oops. In my defense (I sure have to do this a lot lately) I have two good friends both whom I talk to on line a lot, that spell their name with an i.

I get a "damn your pregnant brain!" from Peter every shift I've worked lately. I do indeed get a bad case of the scatter-brains. Which is something I have to fight on a normal bases, adding pregnancy... forgive me, it's just too much.

Thinking of Haley tonight... ugg. My 8 hour labor was lame enough I can't imagine adding like 30 hours to that. (I hope she doesn't read this, I am trying not to rub that in).

B said...

Labor is at 31.5 hours and counting. They said they went to dinner last night, and she's not in pain, just contractions every 4-5 minutes. My word verification sums it up (not even kidding) UNFUN!

Haley said...

Haha! How fitting. I am hanging in there everyone. Yeah, I want to know where me and my mom got this because no one else has any problems! We are just cursed I guess! I got a sleeping pill last night and now I feel really rested and I am starting to feel some more pain right now, YAY! It is a weird day when you REALLY want it to hurt bad!

B said...

Amy just texted me and said it looks like it's not going to happen anytime soon, so she's probably going to come home tomorrow. :-(

Emily said...

How sucky. So are they calling it false labor then?

Sue said...

Poor Haley! Thanks for keeping us updated B!

On another note. Tomorrow is mom's birthday! Could everyone please email me ideas on things she likes?

Amy said...

Well, I'm not sure what to say or think now. Haley's contractions started getting stronger & more painful yesterday afternoon after walking around Sam's Club and the mall in Idaho Falls. They continued all evening & we decided to go to the hospital at about midnight to see if anything was happening. We were shocked to find out that she was still not showing any signs of progression. The contractions even stopped when she was being monitored, of course! It's pretty discouraging for her. She took another sleeping pill and strong contractions woke her up at 6:30 this morning. She said that she thought they hurt yesterday, but nothing compared to now. We are timing them, and they are about every 3 min. and painful. She knows they need to get worse and she's determined not to go to the hospital until she absolutely knows it's time. I think I will stay around for a while and see if this is it. It's hard to believe that they can keep going like this and not do something. I don't dare go home, but then again, the dr. said this could go on for days or even weeks. He didn't think so. Haley said to me yesterday, "So, I'm even worse than you?" Poor thing. I wish I could do something. We'll keep you informed on any news. Thanks for your support and words of encouragement for Haley. She's starting to think she'll never be born. We were thinking last night that Allison just wanted to wait and be born on Grandma's birthday. Let's hope!

Pops said...

Thanks for the up-date, Amy. Prayers for Haley. Mom always said it seems like it will never be born and the disappointments of not seeing or having progress is discouraging, but guess what? It happens and the baby is born and the wait is so worth it. Keep us informed.

Sue said...

Can't the doctor do something about this? They seriously can't let her go on much longer can they? I feel so bad for Haley! How frustrating and painful and emotional! Mom would love that if her first great-grandchild was born on her birthday. Sarah was born on her great-grandma's birthday.

And one more thing. Does everyone in this family need to be born in March? Sheesh!

B said...

She can't stay in there forever! Vesta and Orlean and Lelah and I will come drag her out after April 9th. Poor Haley. 3 days of contractions!!!

Sue said...

So if me, Cat and Em are Vesta, Orlean and Lelah. That makes B Marjorie, right?

Amy said...

It would be way cool if she was born today. Yes, Sue, another March baby. (hopefully). Last night the Dr. didn't want to help her along because it could be dangerous and it was false labor. One of her Docs was willing to strip her membranes yesterday, but couldn't. She wasn't far enough along. Today, if they continue like this, they need to do something. She can't keep this up. Her spirits are getting low. She is still contracting hard every 2 min. so we are a little encouraged. We are leaving the house now to walk around some more stores.

Pops said...

What is going on, Amy? Let us know as soon as possible. I am sure Haley is tired of all the contractions and pain, but she is a trooper and will do fine. How is Marcus holding up? It is tough for the father. I know. I hope the little nipper is saying good by to all her friends and getting ready to join all of us here on earth. She is coming to a good family. She will love her great aunts.

Neaners said...

Hi Everyone! It's Jeanine. Hang in there Haley. I was in labor for 42 hours with Laura. I guess she was worth it. LOL! I hope no C section is in order. Can't wait to hear how she is doing. Love you!

Dan W said...

There was another sister in that gang of great aunts: Beth. Don't know if that name fits with the other old lady names quite as well, so Marjorie is a good one if B prefers that....

Haley, Lorri and I have strong memories of your mother's frustration and discomfort as we all waited for your arrival (our two families shared the top two apartments of a fourplex at the time), though I know it wasn't this long a labor or this intense. All our best!

Is there a cheer we can make up for cervix dilation? "Give me a 'C'; give me an 'E'. . ." or "We want a touchdown" or to get anatomical (sorry B), maybe "Endometrium, endometrium, time to shrink..."

Pops said...

Elva was another great aunt, also Ethel. Ethel was so funny and a lot like Aunt Orlean. My dad had six sisters, Beth the youngest and Ethel the oldest.
Dan....endometrium is outside my knowledge sphere and I am not sure I want to know what it is. My uterus already hurts.

Sue said...

Dad, this is not the first time your uterus has been hurting! Hahahaha! (I know there is another comment on this blog where dad complains about his uterus or ovaries hurting!)

I thought B should be Marjorie because she was the only sister-in-law, right? Grandpa had a lot of sisters, but like us, there was only one sister-in-law, and that would be Marjorie. But I'm kind of liking Elva.....

Neaners said...

I like Elva too:) Marjorie was a sister in law yes but I think Uncle Earl was married too but I can't remember to who? Uncle George you should know? All I can think of is them all up there having a great time telling their stories along with my dear mom. It has almost been 6 years. I am sure they are all looking down on Haley too:)

Sue said...

I forgot to say this earlier, but Welcome Neaners! I know I can speak on behalf of everyone when I say, we are so glad to hear from you! We were all so happy that Dan joined the blog a couple of weeks ago, and now you've joined! You guys are family, and we love you so much! (Em, you should change the heading to say it is the Wright/Phister/Wotherspoon blog.) This blog is a great way to keep up on the family! You should encourage Steve and Sharon to join too.

Amy said...

Yes, it's nice to stay in contact with you all and have a little fun.
Quick update on Haley: We went to the hospital at about 4:30 this afternoon. We just wanted to see if she was making any progress. She had had a little meltdown in the afternoon while we were playing Wizard. She had another meltdown when the nurse checked her and there was absolutely no progress! We couldn't believe it. She was a great nurse and spent a lot of time consoling Haley and trying to explain what was happening. Another nurse did an ultrasound to see the position of the baby's head. It was tilted off to the side a little, putting no pressure on the cervix. That is why she is not dilating at all. She told Haley to try and relax and get some sleep and talk to the dr. tomorrow about some options including a possible c-section tomorrow. We hope that that won't be necessary. It was interesting how having an explanation really helped Haley's spirits. She had a complete turnaround in her mood. She tried not to focus on the pain and the lack of progress. I made a 4 layer chocolate cake with mousse filling, I gave her a pedicure/foot-soaking/massage, while we watched Pride & Prejudice. Then we finished our Wizard game and she took her heavy-duty sleeping pill. I hope she can sleep and be ready for whatever tomorrow brings. Thanks again for your love, prayers, and kind words. You guys are the best. Thanks Mom, Dad, Matt & B for your help with my kids while I'm gone. Love you all.

Sue said...

If a 4-layer chocolate cake with mousse filling and a foot massage doesn't do the job, then I don't know what will! And watching Colin Firth as Darcy should get any woman going, hahahaha. But seriously, this is ridiculous! Little Berries Pie's should not be in this much pain and uncomfortable-ness.

Pops said...

I have been up since 3:30 snowplowing at the airport. Taking a break now and reading the blog. Thanks for the explanation, Ams and I am glad Haley is sleeping and feeling a little better about her situation. I agree with the sue that Hales shouldn't have to deal with this much pain and stress. I am so glad you are there with her. You are such a blessing in her life and in all of ours.
Welcome to Jeanine on the blog. Yeah!

Amy said...

OK time for a new update. Sorry for all of the runaround. Haley had a pretty good night's rest and we just got back from the consult with the Dr. He said that the nurse was wrong. The position of the baby's head has nothing to do with it right now. True, the baby's head is not engaged, but that just means it's not ready to be born yet. Her pain is manageable and she is doing fine. Don't worry about her too much. He said that this could last up to 2-3 weeks. Probably won't, but it could. She just needs to try to focus on other things like the 10 pg paper she needs to write, other projects and finals. It doesn't seem fair that this happens to some people and other people have short labors. (I think anything under 24 hrs is short). So, I'm still in a tough position. I would go home right now, but the roads are horrible and some are closed because of the big storm that's been going on for a few days. Hence, the snowplowing for Dad. Tomorrow looks pretty good, so unless things change drastically with Haley, I will plan on going home tomorrow.

Neaners said...

Thanks for update. Be careful with driving Amy. I know it must be frustrating for Haley with all the pain etc and you having to miss your trip to Nauvoo but you are there for your daughter and that is most important. Having her focus on other things like school is good. Distractions are important. The sweet little spirit will come down when she is good and ready. She is lucky to come into a wonderful loving family. Hang in there!

Amy said...

This has been quite a roller coaster ride of emotions. As soon as I think I'll go home, things change enough to keep me here, only to get disappointed once again. Last night her contractions seemed to change. They were stronger and felt different to her. She went to bed and was aware of them all night. They woke her up a lot. They continued throughout the day and I could tell they were a little different. She seemed to have some pressure, feeling like the baby had dropped a little. We watched "My Best Friend's Wedding" and walked around Walmart for a while and went to the dr. at 4. He checked her and said she's still at 1 cm, but softening a little and could feel the baby's head. So we continue to be frustrated, and not knowing what to do. The good news is, the baby's heart rate is very good and is showing no signs of distress. I don't know if I should go home or not. I'm thinking of staying for the weekend and then if nothing has changed I'll leave. Then, of course, she'll have the baby!

Pops said...

OhhhhmyyyyyyHaley! It is hard to imagine what you are going through. Hang tough! It will be all worth it when she finally comes out.....just pop her out like a prune seed when the time is right. She will be all the more presious and dear after this experience. Thanks for the updates, Amy, keep them coming this weekend. Is Scott going up there when he gets back to SLC?
My W.V. is "surumpops" Yes, I sure am pops. love

Amy said...

If there is a baby by Tuesday morning, he will come to Rexburg from SLC. If not, he will go home. Nothing new since the last posting. More of the same...poor kid

Amy said...

We just got home from the hospital again. She was up all night. Wasn't able to sleep through them. We were hoping for some progress, but again, nothing. They gave her a shot of morphine and she just went to bed. She should be able to sleep for a few hours. Morphine is supposed to either stop false labor or kick it into gear if you are close. They did this for me for three of my babies and all three times it worked. I always woke up from the morphine having stronger contractions and had a baby relatively quick. Lets all hope. I plan on going home tomorrow if there is still nothing but the weather is horrible here and I don't know if I'll be able to go home. Sorry for sounding like a broke record.

Amy said...

I meant broken...i sound like a hick.

Haley is baffling us right now. it's been 2 1/2 hours on morphine and she can't fall asleep! What's up with that!? Jeanine, any help?

Emily said...

Totally excused the broke, I can imagine this is taking it's own toll on you.
All I have to say is, what is the deal????

Pops said...

It is snowing here since 8:15 pm. The hardest snow I have seen since we moved here. Already 2 inches on the pavement and three on the dirt and grass. I'll be snowplowing at the airport all morning and day. fun, fun, Don't know what to tell you, Amy, about traveling. Just be careful and don't take any chances. We had a good day at your house this afternoon and evening. Mom made swiss steak and later the girls made waffels. Yum, waffels and milk with powderd sugar and lemon. Yum again. Your kids are the best! Prayers are out for Haley and the nipper.

Amy said...

Thanks guys. I just heard from Sarah that over a foot of snow has accumulated in Riverton in an hour and it's still coming. They are closing Teton Pass tonight, so it looks like I'm stuck here for awhile. I called my friend who's a labor & delivery nurse and she gave us a little more advice. Relaxation and rehydration were her ideas. She says that sometimes women get really dehydrated in latter pregnancy and that can cause problems dilating. We'll try anything! She finally went to sleep for 2 or 3 hours. Feels better.

Neaners said...

Morphine and other drugs can cause what we call a paradoxical reaction and does the opposite. Plus Haley is over tired and her hormones are raging it doesnt help. I am so sorry! I hope she can rest. What a challenge and ordealI am praying for you. If u decide to go home, please be careful. Hang in there! Love you!

Neaners said...

Sorry didn't read the update. Yes dehydration is a real problem. I am glad she rested some. Keep us posted. Sorry the weather is so bad. It was a beautiful day here in old California! I feel very blessed to live here and able to enjoy it. Laura is trying to get used to the weather in West VA too. Take care! Love ya lots!

Emily said...

So how is it going today? Did the morphine change the labor at all?

We had a giant windstorm yesterday, it was awful our garbage cans (and the neighbors) were all over the yards (good thing it was garbage and recycle day on Fri or we would have had a HUGE mess). Our neighbor's big bbq tipped over. Crazy. We got some snow, maybe 3 or 4 inches, nothing too shocking but lame none the less. Sounds like Idaho and Wyoming have it way way worse.

How frustrating the whole situation is. I'd say hang in there, but how many times can you say that or hear it before you want to punch that person in the face?

Neaners said...

Hang in there! LOL. Still thinking of you. Sorry the weather is so bad. Just a few minutes ago we had a earthquake! SO wild! Don't know the magnitude yet. We also had a very windy night. California!! Have a great day!

Amy said...

Wow, an earthquake! Keep us posted on that. Pretty much the same thing today, the morphine didn't seem to change anything and she didn't sleep for most of the night again. Tomorrow is her regularly scheduled Dr. appt. and there is a slight possibility they might induce her. They said they didn't want to do it before 39 weeks, and tomorrow she'll be 39 weeks. We think it would be very fitting and funny if she had the baby on April Fool's Day! No one will believe us when we announce the birth, if it happens. Pretty funny I think.
We're "hanging in there" and Haley's not ready to punch anyone in the face quite yet. You can keep saying it.

Emily said...

Alright Haley and Amy and Marcus:

Hang in there!

Dan W said...

Yeah, Haley, Marcus, and Amy: "Hang in there!"

Hey Allison: "Get out of there!"

Haley said...

Thanks everybody for the love and support! It really has been a tough week. We went to the doctor this morning for my 39 week appointment and not any dilation or anything. STILL! He is guessing that the contractions have just been turning the baby in the right position so she is not posterior. We don't really know though. It has just been so frustrating, such a roller coaster of emotions. It has been hard on all of us. So he said that because I am 39 weeks now I could choose to be induced if I wanted. We talked about it and we felt that it was a good decision. But they called the hospital and they have NO induction openings until the 9th when I already have an induction scheduled if I go late!!! We just can't catch a break. So, we just figure she will just come when she is ready and there is NOTHING we can do about it. We just have to keep plugging along and know that it will happen sometime. It is really hard though. Tears... I'm sick of going to walk around at walmart because there are babies and car seats everywhere and it just makes me sad. I guess now I just need to try and get my mind off of it and get my school stuff done as best as I can. My mom left about an hour ago to go home. The weather is supposed to get horrible tonight so she is leaving now to try and beat it. The roads are bad in one stretch so we are worried about her. Hopefully she will be able to make it back when this baby really does come. So that is the update. Not much.

Cat said...

Good to hear from you, Haley. I just can't imagine what you're going through, you poor thing!

Neaners said...

Oh Haley! Sending you love and support! What a tough ordeal you have been going through! Your sweet little girl will come when she is ready and not on your timetable. She will be so loved! It is important to stay distracted with school etc..that is to get done with the semester. Hope Marcus is doing okay with it all too. I will be anxious to hear that your mom made it home safe. Take care!

Haley said...

My mom made it back safe so that is great. I'm sure everyone there is very glad for that! We joked that as soon as she went home I would actually go into labor. Haha. We shall see. My ver. word is latee.....I hope that isn't a sign.

Pops said...

Matt told me Amy got home. I haven't talked to her yet. I had cub scouts and a little A.Idol and now at the airport. Glad she is home for a while. I am proud of you Haley. Hanging tough and brave. Love you and can't wait to see my great grand daughter.

Amy said...

Yes, I am home and Scott made it home from DC just a few minutes before I did. All is well at home and I caught up on some American Idol. The kids were glad to have me home. We will just keep in close contact with Haley and we will go with the flow. I'm proud of Haley & Marcus. They are doing well under these tough circumstances. They know that they are blessed with a healthy baby and that's what matters. We just can't wait to meet her and hold her.
HA HA my w.v. is "mating" no kidding!

Neaners said...

I am so glad you made it home safe Amy as well as Scott. The weather sounds scary. Our earthquake was only a 4.3 but it was "fun" feeling the swaying. Keep us posted. That sweet little angel will be worth waiting for! Take care!

Emily said...

Good to hear from you Haley, and it's actually Haley instead of marcusandhaleycrook. Are they calming down at all or have they just been adjusted to as part of your daily life? Glad your home safe Aim.

Haley said...

Yeah I changed my name on here, it was starting to annoy me. They weren't too bad yesterday until the afternoon and they have been bad ever since. I didn't sleep well at all last night. I am just starting to get used to them since they have been my constant companion for 9 days. It's starting to feel like I will be stuck like this forever!

Pops said...

Wow! 64 comments. Must be record. Must be a record for the number of contractions a person can put up with. Waytogo, Haley.

Amy said...

I played a mean april fool's joke on Annie & Kyle this morning. I woke them up by saying that Haley had the baby during the night and that I had to leave for Idaho again. They totally believed me. They were glad it wasn't true. Sorry Haley! I don't think I could have driven to Idaho anyway this morning. On the way to school we passed about 5 accidents. The roads were a sheet of ice! Must have been freezing rain, then snow. Crazy. Melting now.

Pops said...

Matt texted Mom with an Aprils fools joke that Haley was having the baby now. Mom caught it and texted back telling Matt "april fools. Waytogo mom! You are usually the great fish.

Cat said...

I totally fell for Matt's joke. I was even thinking, wow, it really will be an April Fool's baby. Still didn't dawn on me until my next message from him was "Ha ha ha!".

Sue said...

Matt sent me the same text. I caught on right away. Well at first I was excited, then I figured it was a joke.

Haley said...

I wish it was true!

Neaners said...

Yes April 1st would be appropriate for the little girl. Oh well! She will come when she wants! Our favorite saying. Hang in there!

Haley said...

Hey everybody! No April Fool's baby, too bad. Actually, she would probably have hated it if it was her birthday so that is a good thing. Would have been funny though. In some good news, my contractions were really irregular yesterday and today so far so not near as much pain. They come and go so I am VERY grateful for that. It is a lot easier to get everything done with school without those dumb things! So, at least we know she will be born at the latest, a week from today! Yay! It really will go fast, I can't believe it.
