Top 5 Lazy/Rainy/Sick day movies

Em mentioned in the recent Sunday's With Sue comments that there should be a Top 5 list of lazy/rainy/sick day movies. I was kind of waiting for you to do it Em, but I've made my list, so I'll start it. On afternoons that we feel like watching a movie because we are being lazy, or it's snowing so hard our dish doesn't get signal, these are the top movies Cam and I own that we are most likely to watch. And they aren't in any kind of order.

5- Fargo- I love this and pretty much all Coen brother's movies.

4- The Unforgiven- Clint Eastwood is pretty much my favorite hollywood person and this movie is the best!

3- Lord of the Rings movies- Surprise! I'm including all 3 of them in this one.

2- Mystic River- I love this movie! Sean Penn is wonderful, so is Tim Robbins and Kevin Bacon. It's also another Eastwood classic, he not only directed it, he composed the music for it. (is there anything he can't do?)

1- It's a 3-way tie! I could not decide, so I just have to list all 3: Zoolander/Open Range/3:10 to Yuma. --

I guess I like westerns, because there are 3 of them on here. If Cam were here he would probably insist on the Star Wars movies, but for some reason, we don't own any of them. My idea behind this posting is movies you own that you can easily just pop in the player and watch.

Yeah, oops. I was going to post but forgot. We spent 3 1/2 hours at the park today it was so nice! Scout actually wore shorts. Anyway, here's my list:

(While Sue favors Westerns, this seems to be my time to watch romantic movies)-- These are in no particular order--

1. Sense and Sensibility
2. Some Like it Hot
3. A Few Good Men
4. As Good As it Gets
Can I do a 3 way tie too?
5.Pretty in Pink, Bringing Up Baby, Tommy Boy, The Breakfast Club....

My idea behind this posting varies slightly from Sue's, to me these movies on the list are like comfort food, or old friends that just make you feel good cause they're on. You can anticipate all the scenes and always have 3 or so favorite ones you wait for.

Okay, stand back! Here is my list. Same criteria as Sue and Emily:

1. The Untouchables.

2. Field of Dreams

3. and..Justice for All.

4. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

5. It's a 4-way tie! Contact, What about Bob?, Lawrence of Arabia, Kingpin.

There are others including another Costner (Tin Cup) that I would add. For you, Sue, I was going to add Absolute Power because it is a Eastwood movie.
Good posting. "Nemo" belongs

Ups! Take out "and...Justice for All and put in "A Few Good Men" at the top of my list. Double feature it with "Ghost" Hahaha, I can't quit. How about a top 25 list?

My idea is the same as yours Em. I see them as comfort movies that I anticipate watching and see them as old friends. I only put in the disclaimer of owning them because you can just grab them from your collection and watch them any time you want.

I like your list Cat. The Spiderman movies almost made my list. And I absolutely love Superbad.

Ok, no one can laugh at me. Mine is most similar to Emily's because I also dig the romantic movies when I'm sick/lazy/rainy days. I love curling up on the couch and watching these and waiting for the parts that I love!

1. Win a Date With Tad Hamilton
2. While You Were Sleeping
3. Pride and Prejudice
4. Little Women

I really can't think of another one...these are my 4 main go-to movies. If I think of another I will add it.

Wow, Sue. You're movies are pretty intense.

I would have added Nothing to Lose, but that is more of a after one in the morning giggle fest anytimer. Funny, I was going to add it, but didn't then tonight, Scout and I went to the store then got some gas and it was really windy and a few drops of fuel dripped on my feet and I could smell it when I got in the car. Add a spider on my head and a book of matches and I would have been the scat man. Made me laugh and made me think of that movie again today.

What is Open Range by the way?

On lazy, mellow out days, I go with comedies or films with really likable characters who are fun to spend time with.

5. Hitch
4. Something's Gotta Give
3. Family Man
2. Almost Famous
1. Dave

A new favorite that might make a future list is Dan in Real Life.... It and Lars are my favorite feel happy movies from this past year.

I LOVE Dan in Real Life, that is such a great movie!

Em, Open Range is a western that came out a couple of years ago. It has Kevin Costner and Robert Duvall. Costner plays a really likeable character, so I can handle him in this movie. But Robert Duvall is just the best. I love his character so much! Especially when you find out his real name is blue bonnet hahahahha! It also has one of the best shoot outs at the end.

I'm totally with Dan on the character thing. I looked down my list of movies and almost every one of them I watch because there are 1 or 2 characters I love so much. LOTR movies are more for the whole story and just the films themselves. And Zoolander is just plain silly.

And Dan, Lars and the Real Girl and Dan in Real Life are both great movies that I could watch over and over again. I own Lars, but not Dan.

I like Dan in Real Life, too. There are so many good movies, but without giving this a lot of thought, here goes:

*While You Were Sleeping & *Sleepless in Seattle
*My Best Friend's Wedding
*Seems Like Old Times
*The Sound of Music
*#1 has to be "Pride & Prejudice"
(The BBC one starring Collin Firth-it's the best)

I guess I like Romantic/comedies too.

I almost put My Best Friend's Wedding. I LOVE the part when they all sing at the table, that is the best.

Cat said...

I love My Best Friend's Wedding! I don't own it, but I watch it everytime it's on tv. Each morning I wake up, before I put on my make up!! Best scene.

Open Range is the best! Costner and Duvall and just great. Sweet Love story with Kevin and Annette Benning. The shootout is so real. They acutually (sp) miss and have to reload and get close and it is just shot really well. See it! It's on TV a lot. Dan, Dave is one I rewatch a lot. Just something neat about it and Kline is very underrated as an actor. I like Seabiscuit a lot.

Cat said...

It was rainy today. I watched Seabiscuit.

"uncle Buck" always gives me a laugh. Love the car. Love the scene at the school with the lady principal with the melonoma, wart on her chin. John Candy gets up and tosses a quarter on the desk and tells her to go downtown and get a rat to chew that thing off. One of the best slams in the history of moviedom. hay, that would be a good posting...."the five top putdowns or slams in movies".
